My first shave with my new E2 and I like it. Much smoother than my G types. It's actually on par with my PAL Injectomatic. Very smooth shave today.

Yes I really like the E2's very close to the PAL IM. V
Very efficient razors when used with the Chick blades.

Yesterday I was fooling around and came up with this...

I used my OCMM, which is an early one without the bumps on the blade plate....I tried a new GEM Stainless which the Micromatics are designed for, only this time I tried a 1/2 Shim....Got one of the best shaves ever! This has always been an outstanding razor for me, but yesterday's and today's shaves were the best shaves ever with this razor....Equal close but much smoother and irritation free....

My guess, the shim makes it feel like my Clog-Pruf....must be because my Clog-Pruf has those bumps on the blade plate and the shim finds a similar angle.....I don't completely understand...But I'll take it!....

Has anyone else seen the Type L on eBay for $125.00? :lyrtuy5: It's almost as bad as the Type L for £74.95 ;) ...

    Tabacstag! First Gem OCMM shave
This was my first shave with an SE razor. I found this OCMM at the flea market over the weekend and found blades at my local Rite-Aid drug store. I began tentatively, unsure of the proper angle, but I found it pretty quickly and set to work. It wasn't the smoothest shave, but it got the job done without weepers. The VY PSO and Tabac did their job prepping and setting up my stubble. Tabac aftershave stung a bit more than usual, but I expected that this time.
If I had to decide right now, I'd choose the smoothness of der Futur over the OCMM, but this is only one shave. I won't really be able to compare until my SE technique is much improved.
    Prep: Van Yulay PSO
    Soap: Tabac!
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: GEM Open Comb Micromatic
    Blade: Renewal
    AS: Tabac!

Congratulations....when you bond with the OCMM it can be ultra smooth aswell....The main thing I dug about this design was how it took the guess work out of finding the perfect shaving angle.....Just lay it down flat and lower the hand a hair and listen....Follow the Sound....This razor really was a revolutionary design....aswell as the first TTO...Beat Gillette to the TTO punch!

The Bumps were only to align the blade so it didn't run over the stops when loading it...The earlier OCMM didn't have them and the blade can go over the stops when clamping it down..That's why they changed it..They shave the same..There is a lot of theories about the ones without the bumps being more aggressive..Thats just Forum talk that's grown legs..:)

I ended up liking my E2, but "smooth" is not the word I would use. Maybe T-rex, Great White shark, man-eater... LOL

NOS Dutch Schick Krona Injector Blade New
    Mason Pearson Pure Badger
    Haslinger Tallow Soap
    Thayers Original Witch Hazel

I used an NOS Dutch made Schick Krona blade in the Almighty Type E 2 Today & it offered me the Dolphin Smooth Finish of my Life..This Type E 2 was NOS when I got it..This blade is ever so Forgiving in the Type E 2..It can be a tad Mild in some Injectors but not here..The Type E 2 was far smoother & more forgiving than a much milder Hydro..What a Razor & Blade Combo..These Dutch blades are the Dogs Danglies..Good karma..:)

I've heard of the non-bump OCMM but have never seen one live. Both my silver and brass OCMM have the bump and shave similar. I normally live open comb more but on the Gem I prefer the Clog Pruf. Just seems a little smoother but just as effective.

These Hollow Ground/Wedge Blades are Awesome when you can produce a Wicked Edge..And that's the Operative Word for Me an All..I am Digging my Rolls at the moment & reckon its up there with the Best of them..As you say..The more Wicked the Edge the Smoother they are..:angelic007:

I have to respectfully disagree here. :(

I have both versions and my personal experience is that the bumpless model is noticeably more aggressive.

The two razors have different blade angles. On both models the blade edge sits behind the blade stops and is held against the base plate by the cap. On the bumpless model the spine of the blade rests against the base plate, determining the blade angle. On the bump model the blade sits on the bumps ahead of the spine and there is a noticeable gap between the spine and the base plate. The blade angle is determined by the bumps and thus the angle of the blade in relation to the comb is steeper on the bump model.

This can also be seen by looking at the post on the base plate that goes through the hole in the center of the blade. On the bumpless model it sticks up significantly above the blade while on the bump model it is almost flush with the blade.

I suppose a shim could be used on a bumpless model to make it shave like a bump model.

That's not what I found Bob..I found that after its closed down they are both the same..The Bumps align the blade before closure but I found them both the same after the its been closed down..I got rid of the one without bumps so I cant revisit it now..That said I just checked my OCCM & Cog Pruf again that have the Bumps & the Spine on both are resting against the base plate at the very back..:)
