I resisted temptation today. At an antique store in Huntsville, TX I found a 1959 Fat Boy, it needed cleaning but nothing scrubbing bubbles couldn't handle. The mechanisms seemed to work well and it was only $12. If it was a D (birth year razor) instead of an E I wouldn't have been able to resist.
I know NB '16 is in part about saving money...but I fear that in this case it prevented you from possibly making money as you could had easily flipped it for a profit.
Wow, That was real will power, but I believe my capitalistic nature would have taken over...glad that I was not tempted.
I have decided to define my NB'16 clearly for those interested. I write this because I am almost out of Thayer's Witch Hazel, which I use after every shave (I have long since dropped it from my SOTD photos) and I ordered a new bottle without hesitation. So...let it be known that I have not and will not purchase a new/used Soap/Cream/Croap; AS, EdT, EdC, Shaving Brush, Razor, Blades (I have plenty)since January 1, 2016 until January 1, 2017. I may trade---without financial outlay, for any of the heretofore mentioned shaving products. Witnessed whereof Anno Domini 2016...etc. etc. etc.
Need a ruling... If I pay to have new scales made for a SR blade I already own, is that a violation? The current scales are very off center and don't protect the blade properly.
I would have to say yes, unless you don't use the SR in 2016. That's just my opinion though. Paying for repairs is different from buying new, so an argument could be made either way.
I will not be getting new scales. I've decided that it violates the spirit of what we're trying to do. Likely not. It is now my first project for 2017.
Still good as well. Like @Bama Samurai , I have a few razors in need of new scales, but have plenty that are in great shape so I will wait until 2017 to re scale them
It's tough....I am really liking straights, and I am a perfectionist...but a commitment is a commitment is worth finishing! Adam gave me a great shaving blade, it will look awesome come 2017!
I'm out after 70 days. Just paid for a Simpson 58 Manchurian in tortoise. I'm still restraining from soap, aftershave and scent buys this year. It was fun... later.
