I'll second the Firehouse. Bit of a pain to put in, but great staying power.

No problems when done the way I demonstrate.

I believe you, we just don't have a hair dryer handy. I know my wife has one somewhere, but she doesn't use it very often.

My wife got tired of me using hers, so I found one on clearance, $5, at Target.

youngunn Where's my TSD aftershave balm???

So I used your method and got great staying power, but my issue is about 4 hours later or so, the hold is still good but the wax is starting to like ball up or become visible in my stache. Is this normal or is it just my wax? I may have to break down and buy some firehouse...

I would guess at two possibilities:
1 - too much wax. Make sure it is well melted in your 'stache as you comb it through.
B - it's your wax. I don't have any issues throughout the entire day, and my wax is super strong.

I noticed yesterday that when I went outside (around 30 degrees,) the wax that was melted into my mustache promptly solidified and got grainy and visible. I assumed I had just used too much wax.

That's kinda what happened to me. Maybe I used to much wax

Not saying I would actually do this, but if you crank your heater all the way up and stick your face in front of it for a few minutes, you can comb most of the wax chunks out before you get to the office. (Or so I have heard.)

As long as I don't over apply the wax and melt it through evenly I haven't had any issues. When I touchup the curls I make sure to use very little and apply it though the hair very thoroughly and it doesn't ball up much anymore.

    Thanks bud

Also what I've been doing is in the morning I blow-dry my stache first thing and then let it cool and sorta feel how much wax is already in there. That keeps me from over applying. Then I'll just apply to the curls.

Just a note about a hair dryer.

Hair and heat don't like each other, so be careful. Granted, the stiffer the wax , the more heat you will need.

Don't twist the mustache, but roll it to apply the wax. I don't comb the wax in, but work it in.

I'm curious, what did they use in Ye Olden Days before hairdryers were invented? I'd imagine a match would be rather dangerous. And did they use beeswax or some sort of lard/lanolin/motor oil.....?
