The Haul: March 2016

Got a very unique custom brush today. It was made by Brushcraft, or Chris Trimble. It is fantastic quality and craftsmanship. I will go over the specs after the pictures. Please ignore my accounting textbook underneath haha.




I absolutely love it and cannot wait to try it out. I am going to rinse/ lather it with dish soap to help break it in. The knot is a 24mm Silvertip with a 50mm loft. I have lots of boar brushes, and love boar brushes, but am expanding to more silvertips and synthetics. So far, my Semogue OC Badger Silvertip is my favorite, however this one might beat it.

 

I have a Swastika one I got for a song that was made by the New York Club long before the Nazi's came to prominence. My wife hates it with a passion (we're Jewish) and wont let me display it. I keep pointing out that it isn't rotated 45 degrees as the German swastika is, but she refuses to budge. I have taken to talking like Gollum calling it "My Precious" whenever she catches it inserted into the display brushes.

 

That is a gorgeous brush. I look forward to hearing how it lathers.

 

That is a beautiful burl/resin combination. I have a similar handle in green made by Elite Razor that I am still researching a knot for, but yours is stunning.

Yeah I've seen a few swastika brushes around and personally I don't find them to be offensive unless it's clearly Nazi memorabilia as that symbol has been around for thousands of years and, I believe, still to this day used as positive symbol in India.

Not to enable....but Dorothy just posted a ton of vintage shaving brushes for sale - many under $10. Some metal-wood ones and even one miniature brush with a Swastika

I forgot to mention that. It's a Kriss Kross that I will have to mod blades to use. I like the looks of it and it was cheap. The head pivots so you can use it like a straight.

It's a Segal from the 1930's. I love the mechanism on these razors. A blade has to be modified to fit them, but it is easy. More info here.
