I have been on the road, I had a feeling I would miss my strakes so I brought my CJB pain stick along with me. It greatly impressed a new young friend of mine, she thought it is very macho. Yes that is a stick of Arco you see. Got 2 pain stick shaves in so far this trip.

Hello TSD - this was my straight shave #5:

    1103.jpg

    Preparation:
    - 20 laps on the paddle strop
    - washed face with Stirling Preshave Soap
    - hot towel placed on face for a minute or two

    and then:
    - Stirling "Nag Barber" (mixed leftovers of "Nag Champa" and "Barbershop" samples, a quite pleasant scent actually)
    - Mühle STF
    - Gold Dollar 208
    - La Toja Aftershave

Handling a straight still feels a bit awkward, but I guess it will become more and more natural over time. 2 passes again today (WTG and XTG) - and I THINK the result is a tiny bit better than the one from yesterday's shave. This time I switched the razor from right to left hand during the WTG pass and used only my right hand for the XTG pass. Worked pretty well, I think. One tiny blood spot (not really a cut, I guess I just hit a small pimple there) and a little bit of irritation on my neck. Nothing serious, really nice shave. My final verdict: SAS (socially acceptable shave). Smooth with the grain, not so much against ;)

    Have a great day :happy088:

Good morning to all of you SR shavers out there. I took the Engstrom frameback out for its maiden voyage this morning.

I had Proraso red in the bowl, omega boar brush and shop rite menthol.

Wow! I don't know what else to say. I got a real DFS from an SR for the first time! Two passes and I was good. The shave was smooth and no tugging. I must be getting the angles right.

It has a different feel in my hands compared to my no name Soligen, so that takes some getting used to. I also need to respect the fact that this razor doesn't have a round point. Yes, I jabbed myself! I wasn't thinking.

I really like this razor and, with this being SR shave #9, I'm getting the hang of this, but much more to learn.

Thanks. I'm really fortunate to have acquired this razor and I'm sure it will help me improve my shaves. I'll be posting this often in the SOTD.

Marverel, I'm interested in your observations on that 208. I had considered picking one up as they're really priced right even when prepped to shave ready condition.
