Kind of stuck between the black badger and the black synthetic. Leaning towards the badger. How scritchy is the badger? I like how my omega 10049 boar feels.
The black Badger is pretty scratchy for a while. Pokey like. It will take a while to break in. The synthetic will be soft from the start.
I am glad I switched to silicone. You just have to wait a day before using the brush, but if you ever have to pull the knot it is easy and you don't have to destroy the knot.
Can you just pull the knot out when you use silicone, or do you have to heat the handle? i.e. double boiler or what ever method you use.
I do not recommend boiling or steaming the brush ---> http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/finally-jumpin-in.34103/
I just used whatever I had on hand. I think it was the clear on my 100T, and I used white on my Dubl Duck. The white is glaringly obvious, so the clear might be better. On my aluminum brush, I just used a clear dab on the bottom of the knot to set it. I am assuming I will be able to just grab the knot and the handle, and twist them to separate. I haven't taken a knot out of a handle with silicone yet, so at this point it's all a guess.
Started with 400 grit to remove scratches, progressed 600-800-1000-1500-2000 then polished with mother's
I have only set one knot in my life and went straight for epoxy. Bad call... I ended up setting it too high. Might release it with 30 mins of steam, I understand, but not sure what that does to the poor badger(?)
I face lather also. So the knot should sit in the brush about 9-10mm? The inner ring popped out. That ring fits the knot perfect, so I will reinstall it. Planning on weighting it with putty, and maybe use a nickel as a floor? Then silicone the knot to the floor?
Floor set. Dry fit I plan on setting the knot in silicone, but what should I use to set the nickel in as the floor? Epoxy or silicone?
