1. 3.1416 day

Back at it with the SR. Not bad at all, no nicks this time! And even minimum sting from the OS.

One question, one days growth, the first pass is always pretty rough. Pulling, a little tugging, like I'm not cutting much at all, and it shows. The second pass is always nice and smooth. I go WTG, then across the grain.

Pulling & tugging is a pretty clear indication the edge may not be as keen as it should be. Sometimes a touch-up on the edge can restore some of the keenness and resolve the tugging issue. A good edge should not pull nor tug the whiskers. An edge can be compromised by improper stropping (possible rolling of the edge).
  3. Both razors I've used do this on the first pass and both are newly honed. I did strop this morning before my shave. This was my 3rd shave with this blade and I've used the other one 2-3x also.

Maybe pulling and tugging aren't the right words but it is definitely smoother on the second pass vice the first. Like an aggressive DE that drags over the whiskers but doesn't cut any hair. Then the second pass is like a DE on the first pass....if that makes more sense..

  4. Hmmmmm….interesting. I'm guessing you probably have thick beard growth as well. Are the razors you are using hollow ground? I'd be interested in seeing if you experience the same sensation with a 'denser' blade such as on a wedge or near-wedge. If you've not tried a wedge, PM me your address and I'll send you one to try.
  5. It is pretty thick, I think. I sent you a message with a photo of the blades (I think).
  6. I think Kevin has honed in :)D) on the likely issue(s). I absolutely concur with his assessment. Rough first pass followed by a sweeter follow up pass is typically my result if I let my beard get crazy for a few days between shaves. And my beard is like street broom bristles.
