+1 on WD. They are a good place to start along with the poor man's strop kit.

I had a good shave this morning that I would rate as a CCS. I did get to minor weepers, which isn't too common for me. I am almost sleep walking into my Friday, so I went with a little pick me up in The Veg. Have a great Friday.

I went from a DE to a shavette, spent about a month on the shavette, then went to straights. I call these a pain stick, because they are absolutely unforgiving to poor technique, and they punish errors. They will force you to learn skin stretching, and figure out the right mix of stuff for post shave. I would second the suggestion you go straight to straights. Whipped dog is a good place to get a straight, but any professionally honed vintage straight will work. Don't try to learn to hone it at the same time, it's important to learn to use the razor, and know what a properly honed edge feels like. It's possible to shave with an edge that isn't properly honed, but you won't know that unless you try a properly honed one, which will be easier and way more comfortable.

Happy Friday everyone. I for one am glad to see the end of this week. After being up most of the night with back pain, the shave this morning certainly improved my outlook. The MW Orange Vanilla was much easier to lather today. I am sure the troubles last time were user errors. Going with a 3 pass shave and paying particular attention to my trouble spots allowed me to skip touch ups and still finish with a near BBS. Finished with a splash of F&C Capri and I am off for more tax returns. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Thank you. It's a prototype handle I'm testing for a friend. I'm expecting another lighter handle for testing. I'm looking forward to comparing the two.

    March focus shave 16

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: Personna lab blue (4)
Razor: Maggard MR1 with V2 open comb
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with knock-off Old Spice, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

    Cold Water.jpg

Fat Friday! MWF performed well again. The face lathering ended up more as painting than scrubbing. Part of that is the massive size of that Omega brush. But the lather was protective and slick and provides incredible post-shave feel.

I used to shave in short strokes, two to three inches at a time. But lately I've been starting my strokes at the top of the lather and pulling down all the way to my jaw-line in one stroke. That is helping in several areas - I can get irritation around my chin and this helps to avoid that. I've been trying to add in the longer strokes over time and I'm liking the results. I guess that is all part of technique improvement as well as figuring out our faces and our patterns.

All in all a nice CCS with this combo of gear. Personna Blues work great for me and the open comb razor is becoming a favorite.

    Have a great day everyone!

I am 18 hours post shave, and still a pretty decent DFS. That Case Brothers razor is amazing.

B2 Mongoose and Gillette disposable
Feather Super Pro (5), Gillette (2)
    Kent BK4 silvertip badger
Route 66 Lumberjack, Arko, or Kiss My Face unscented, depending on the day
Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and CC Bay Rum

My shaves this week with the Mongoose, except for two, have been two passes. I continue to focus on near BBS results with no weepers. I did one three-pass shave and was reminded why I went to two passes. I tried my first one-pass plus touch up shave this week with the Goose and got a Darn Fine Shave. This gives me a nice option on mornings when I'm short on time.

And tonight, as another experiment, I used a Gillette disposal on 36+ hours of growth. I went WTG (face)/ATG (neck) on the first pass and XTG on the second pass. I got an unbelievably close shave with no weepers or irritation using the Little Pink Wonder. To top things off, I hardly even felt the alum. This was a good way to assess my shaving technique (TTT), and I now have an "easy" travel option.

I look forward to catching up on the thread over the weekend. I hope everyone is having a fantastic week and didn't have Michigan State picked for the final game.

What a nasty near cut I had today. About an inch long, and why it didn't bleed more I don't know. Oh wait, that wasn't from shaving, that was from hitting my forehead on a shelf at work today! So all's well. And, at least I smacked myself on my head which is the hardest and least likely to damage area on my whole body. Lots of rock and fat up there.

As far as the shave goes it was a much better day. I worked on the angle as planned, watched the set downs and held the angle and ended with a two pass near BBS. I find it's a bit harder to get close to BBS with the Pro for me, mostly because I think I tend to back off a bit due to showing it maybe too much respect. More work with it will help with that. The alum was a bit hot today on the neck but not as bad as some so overall a good day with the pain stick. Now, to avoid plexiglass shelves that are hanging in front of me.

Catching up a bit as I'm behind due to work and a lot of packing and all that fun. Move is scheduled for next Saturday, the 26th. Lots to do.

Nice to see the CJB in your pic. And, nice to hear it's apparently going pretty well for you. I'll read backwards to find out why there's a can of goo involved. I'll withhold the angry scowl until then.

Still working backwards. Two weepers not bad with the pain stick in the early phases. Backwards I go.
