Sure most of you saw this already. Needless to say U.S. seller so definitely not me selling. Schick Repeater razor for sale.

I had to join the 1914 birthday shaves. I forgot how noisy this baby is. I think it was Billy that posted the term "like buttering burnt toast". I agree
It took three passes, but I have a very smooth face.

If it's anything like the 1912 I just got PIF'd, you'll love it! Shallow, shallow angle. Check Try-A-Blade for small samples. I like the PTFE coated blades and find carbon blades a pain in the...

Nice blades. Did they come with a razor or did you find them separate?

You have a Gem Featherweight - congratulations! It's a smooth shaver and a good first SE.

    Buy these blades:

You can find them at walgreens.com, drugstore.com, Amazon and eBay.

Alternatively, you can get house brand SE blades from the shaving section at your local CVS or Rite-Aid drug store. Be advised that these are carbon steel blades and must be removed from the razor and dried immediately after shaving, otherwise they will rust.

Do NOT try to shave with blades from the hardware store, which will fit just fine but do not have a shaving quality edge.

    March 24/14 . . . er, 2016
102nd Anniversary of the Ever-Ready 1914 Patent

    Ever-Ready 1914 Army Kit razor (circa 1918)
PAL Super blued carbon steel blade (1)
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Valobra Fougere soap
    Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve aftershave

It's been a while since I've used a 1914 and I'd forgotten how much fun they can be. Light, aggressive, noisy, maneuverable - just a great shaving experience.

This is an earlier model with the tiny blade stops and it took me several attempts to get the blade to seat securely. This was the first time I've used this particular razor and I found that the spring under the cap needed a bit of tweaking, otherwise one side of the blade wanted to back away from the stop. A few seconds with a small pair of needle-nosed pliers and all good.

Since I didn't have a stainless steel blade with a couple of shaves on it handy, I went with a PAL Super blued carbon steel blade. These do not last as long as the stainless steel blades, and of course the carbon steel blades require more maintenance, but they are smooth shavers right from the first shave.

    An outstanding shave! :happy088:

    Rufus T. Late for dinner

    March 24, 2016
The month of March is focused on two Schick E type razors: a Canadian E and a US E2, while also trying out different blades with each.

With a tip of the fedora to ProfessorB (@Bird Lives ) for his regular (and cool man, real cool) razor history lessons, I'll do my part to honor the 102nd anniversary of the patent on the 1914 EverReady.

Last September I picked up what I think is the 1912 GEM Junior and ‘1924’ EverReady (ShovelHead) when I did a month of SEs for SE SEptember. I shaved with about 12 different GEMs/EverReady and injectors that month and then dove head first into the injector RAD rabbit hole. As a result I only had one shave each with the 1912 and ‘1924’ but as I remember they were pretty smooth daddyo!

So I don’t own the 1914, but in the spirit of it all I will use the 1912 today and 1924 tomorrow.

    Razor: 1912 GEM Junior

    Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG
What a wonderful shave! As @Jayaruh said it’s probably as close to the sensation of using a straight as I can imagine (or will ever experience) as you can hear and feel the reverberation of each whisker cut against the blade/razor. Too cool! Just 3-4 hours later, it seems near the efficiency of the Type Es I’ve been using this month. Will know for sure tomorrow, but my face is oh so smooth right now and zero irritation.

and to think, I found this little gem at an antique shop a mile from home for $3!!!

    Cheers!

I had my "official " 1914 shave today. I had a couple practice runs this week and went with the Eveready blade again after buffing it up on my strop. Very enjoyable shave! image.jpeg

I picked up another Valet for $4.50 shipped. I wanted the strop and blades so I can do this old school. This strop is a rubber material and seems in good shape.

Also got 25 Ted Pella blades for $10.99 shipped. If I like them I'll get the jumbo pack from Ted Pella I think it's like $34.95 for 200 blades.

No way was I going to let the day slip by without celebrating the 1914 on it's 102nd anniversary. I just finished and was marveling the whole time about how smooth a razor this is and how fun it is to use. It wasn't as loud as I remember but I felt the vibration in places. Too cool. Super easy to maneuver. A nice shave and I'm inspired to stay on the SE bandwagon a little longer as a result. :happy088:
