It'll be interesting how this plays out. If its true they must have contracted someone to make them. The specialized tooling from when they were cranking razors back in the day was probably all but lost when they converted to cartridge razors. I can't see them selling the Indian made 7'Oclock or Rapira razors at AOS for $$$.
You weren't here for the great and terrible Edible Croaps catastrophe of ought-twelve. All records of that thread have been purged, two moderators vaporized and the rest of us were sworn to never speak of it under penalt
Of course people would buy one. But enough to warrant the expense of the retooling of a manufacturing plant? Nay I say, nay.
Awwwhhh... Come on now! You get me all wound up and then you tell me to ask Swarden. Man! That must have been some doozy of a thread. Now I've gotta know! Hey Swarden...
I don't know if I will be able to justify paying 75 for a zink tech fat handle when I paid 100 for the Seygus all brass, 80 for the Rockwell all SS adjustable, Rocnel SE SS 25..... The only way I cough up 75 would be if the razor is brass, then I can justify my already insane mind
I did round two with a Bic blade in my post-war Tech. If, and only if, AOS sells the re-issue that is of the same quality as the original (regardless of country of origin) at a reasonable price, I'll run down to Barton Square Mall (they have an AOS there) and take a look-see (bringing mine to compare). Maybe I'll pick one up as a travel razor and keep the good stuff at home.
Thanks for re posting that photo. I and someone else posted it awhile ago, and it seemed to be ignored. I don't know why.
If you go to the AOS home page and click the instagram link, you will find a picture of four products which are potentially available. The object on the far left, just under the stache, is what looks like a nickel plated pre-war fat handle Tech..
Ya sorry, got a bit mixed up in the posts.. but ya not sure why more people haven't noticed this yet. The razor will probably get a lot more attention once they start selling it in earnest...
Update- I read on another thread in another forum that the release date has been set back until fall/winter. I don't know if it is true. It was posted by a credible person though. I'll try to check on this information.
I have to say one thing... Back when the original versions of this rumor started, I always thought that the most unbelievable part was the idea of bring back the Fatboy. The Tech, sure, but not something as complex as the Fatboy. With Rockwell's announcement of the Model T, though, I'm starting to think that if a small upstart company can design and build something comparable to a Fatboy, then perhaps (just perhaps) a well-motivated P&G/Gillette could clone their original and sell it for a comparable price.
