ERN Crown & Sword 1720. First shave with this razor. Very smooth and nice. I don't normally stretch the skin for my first pass, but I did last night. BBS in two passes, going to have to keep doing that.
Gem 1912 Damaskeene GEM PTFE (2) WDC-8 with Druida Manchurian TSD Yin Yang Witch Hazel Fine Platinum Whipped Shea Butter I enjoyed a relaxing shave this morning. I changed things up a little and went with a different 3 pass shave going XTG for the first pass and ATG for the next 2 passes. This has to be one of my best shaves ever with a Gem Razor. My cheeks and jaw line are better than BBS and even the one trouble spot on my neck is just about perfect. Overall I am very pleased with the results. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum. I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.
Razor: Gillette Tech 1939-45 Blade: Dorco ST 301 Platinum SK (1) Brush: WDC-2 Grandfathers Restored High Mountain Soap: TSD 2x Commando Cocktail A/S: TSD 2x Commando Cocktail Bowl: Michael Stanley P.E.I. First shave with this razor and blade. The shave went pretty well, however, I need work with this combination.
Soap Focus I lathered up with Route 66 and reached for my Toggle that has been set to six. The voices in my head said, "If six is good, eight will be better." So I cranked it up to eight and did two passes. My face was dolphin smooth, but what did I find? Two rough spots on my neck. Time for some cleanup. Oops, not a good idea. I now had some razor burn on my neck. I know better than to chase BBS on an aggressive setting. No more listening to the voices SOTD Route 66 Lumberjack Doug Korn brush Gillette Toggle on 8 Feather blade (3) Alum Thayers Witch Hazel Chrome Azzaro Cologne Have a great Sunday!
Glad you enjoyed the write up. The slash has healed up pretty well although it looks like it is going to be one of those that gets reopened if you shave over it. Oh well I have plenty of styptic pens.
Stumbling my way into Attack Angle April Focus Seems Arko & The Veg is a thing, so I succumbed to peer pressure. Not a bad combo, but a little jarring. Using ShaveSecret preshave oil with it's bay rum spice scent really kicked of the dissonance! Despite the mishmash of odd flavors I still finished with a DFS. This my first try on a Derby blade supplied by @Redrock 's PIF. Smooth as many other blades I've tried.
I noticed after you started talking about it that I do a partial fools pass right under my nose. The angles make that the only way to easily cut those few hairs. I've done it for over 10 years.
Hey, how did the voice from my head get into your head? I've had that same conversation with myself several times and not listened to it either. I got the worst cut of my shaving career with a Pain Stick right after one of those conversations.
Great looking razor, Vince. If there is still one safety razor I would like to get, that is the one! Beautiful.
Straights Focus April 3: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Bay Rum SS Henry Sears and Son Queen 3/4 Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Bay Rum AS I had a great shave this morning. I skipped yesterday as I was just too tired, and I HD a fair amount of growth to work with. The razor just did it's job, and did it well. I do think I need to refresh the blade on my pasted balsa a bit, but it was still a nice shave. I haven't used the Stirling Bay Rum in a while, so it was a nice change of pace for me. It is one of my wife's favorites, too, which is always a bonus. Have a great Sunday!
Intro to Straight Razor shaving (Day 3 of 120 days) Gold Dollar 208 JR #23 SilverTip Tabac Maggard Alum Block The Veg Slowed down today after yesterdays early morning butchery... focused mainly today on holding it correct and just doing WTG passes. 2 slow WTG on the cheeks and felt a little too nervous about the neck as I struggled finding the angle (Good job buddy you listened to the voices in your head this time!!!!) so I did my neck with my Gillette New. Neck is BBS and my cheeks are a SAS/DFS just from the two WTG passes. Alum was silent and The Veg gave very little sting. So if this pattern continues I am scared for tomorrow...1st shave went great, 2nd shave was bloody, today was good, so tomorrow I will more then likely manage to cut off a lip or something.
The voices in my head always have bad ideas. " You can get extra day on that blade. Why you need wet lather? What's the worst thing could happen? Scything strokes with a shavette, get that baby, yes even on your neck. Blood still flowing, That would go great with Alum and an alcohol splash. Its just Irritation, get that extra pass to make your face perfectly smooth." I think its the Blade Cartels after a few drinks they bug the possible recruits and offer suggestions to them to see how reckless brave they are before admission.
Good job today, have faith brother, tomorrow will also work out for you. I'm pulling for you, plus you're teaching me things for when I finally join the darkside.
