Well, I don't have enough experience to know. Not sure. The razor head without a blade seems very solid and in place.

There are no notches or anything to hold the blade. It just seemed to sit against the small hooks on the ends (don't know the proper terms) and then would be further held by the top plate. As I said I don't know any difference because that's the first GEM I've used or worked with.

Yeah..Those are blade Stops..When its Clamped down the Sprung Cap should lock it Forward onto those Stops..If the blade is loose or has any movement No matter how Small its Not Correct & more than likely its either a Weak Cap Spring or a Faulty Blade Stop..One or the other..:)

That makes more sense! I'll play around with it some more to see if I can better diagnose the problem.

The blade stops seemed to be okay. But I'll check further. Thanks!

Just got back from the swap meet. Scored 2 Gems 1912's
The first one is a bit worn Gem Junior gold tone. The second is in really nice shape with the case. I noticed on the travel model the back side of the razor has a lower profile. Any info on this will be very much appreciated. Got them both for under $20 total.

It is a genuine Gem Damaskeene stropper, which is why I included it in the Damaskeene "family portrait." Unfortunately I don't have the Damaskeene strop to go with it, but a Valet Auto-Strop strop seems to work just fine.

A little late getting it up, but here is (was) today's shave:

    Sunday April 3, 2016

    Ernst Sharff Rapide razor
    Rapide wedge blade
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Tabac
    More Tabac

I believe that the wedge blades for this razor were made from Solingen steel. Whatever type of steel it is, even my inexpert honing can produce a wicked scary sharp edge. The Rapide weighs a mere 1.75 oz with blade installed, and shaving with it is something like driving a classic high performance sports car. It's exhilarating, but there is definitely a feeling that this a price will be paid for any momentary carelessness.

Today this meant an incredibly close shave, albeit with a couple of weepers and a bit of irritation - hence the Tabac balm to back up the Tabac aftershave. That and a feeling that more practice with this fascinating razor might be a good idea.

Good morning friends. Fantastic shave this morning, not a whisker in sight or touch and feel. I think this Twin blade hit it's peak yesterday as today i felt some slight tugging, nevertheless i will try for 2 more shaves depending on how it feels tomorrow. This RR Milionario whipped into some sweet smelling creamy goodness today, outstanding. Again today this razor was lightening quick to shave with for me. Stirling MITA Balm cooled the finish off nicely. Have a wonderful shave and a wonderful Monday folks. :)

That's not even the best open comb Dammie. You cannot tell from the picture, but the the one center back row is also an open comb. Here is a closer look:

Upon further inspection it seems that the top cap slides a tiny bit side to side. When moving the razor fast enough, as in mimicking the movement of swishing the razor in the sink to remove soap and hairs, the clicking sound is evident. I did all of that without a blade.

Is there a way to fix that? The blade stops seems to be okay.

Not Sure about what you mean..If you flick it about when its not loaded you may get a Clicking Sound from the Hinges..That said if the blade is moving you have a Weak Spring..You may be able to tighten the spring with a small screwdriver to put more tension on it..These are reasonably cheap on EBay anyway to replace it..One thing is for sure if there was any movement on any blade in my SEs I wouldn't be shaving with it..:D
