Well you may not want to sit too close to me then. Back in the late 80's, early 90's, I umpired Little League all the way up to American Legion ball. So yeah, I still think I can see the strike zone from wherever I am better than the actual ump at times. And I believe that in spite of the number of coaches and players and parents back in the day who used to accuse me of not even knowing what a strike zone was!

however, maybe they were on to something......(crash, bang, sounds of shoeboxes and file cabinets being overturned...)

    "Found it!"

um, I think maybe it was because "you thought" WRONG!

You really couldn't see the strike zone, even from right behind the plate, let alone up in the nose-bleed seats...

from the TSD Archives - @NCoxSTL circa January 1981.

Much better shave today. Found the right angle of attack. This razor and blade work very well together.
After being up half the night trying to fix the refrigerator having an excellent shave was a great end to the day. :happy096:

You may want to talk to @Rufus T. about a World Series win. :)
It seems he is a bit of a Mets fan.

How do you like the Derby blades?

Yes he is. And they got to stand and watch the end of their season die on the big screen at KC yesterday. Even Ned Yost of the Royals thought that was a bit of a slam.

Man what a memory you have! I had totally forgotten I posted that picture. Don't know what to say except......eyesight isn't THAT important for an Ump as many have demonstrated. It's the ability to HEAR where the ball crosses the plate that really counts. And man, my fashion sense back then rocked didn't it? :happy088:

Well ok, point made. Maybe MLB doesn't have an eyesight minimum requirement to qualify as an umpire. But I'm made to understand, that upon seeing that photo, they now have a dress code!

    YOU'RE OUT!

and I thought MLB has a problem with umpires!

It's one thing to schedule the two teams from the last World Series for the following Opening Day - but to do the whole drawn out, pre-game World Series celebration and force the losing team to watch?!

    MLB morons.
and they wonder why they still have bean balls happening during games.
idiots. (and its not just because I'm a Met fan. I'd have said the same thing if I were a Royals fan. The fans deserve a party. Just not in front of the losing team!)

Yost made pretty much the same point, only a bit more diplomatically given his status as a Manager. And yes, the schedule for this season was drafted before the World Series, but a simple change could have been made during the off season.

    Agreed.
I knew about the schedule development piece.
And yes, Yost handled it like a gentleman.

The Feather Pro is probably the "prototype" blade for pain sticks. I do agree that the Kai Mild, while lessening risk and still providing a very nice finish, doesn't give as long-lasting a result. The Captain Original performs more like the Pro, at least for me, still with less risk but again, not quite as good a result when all things are considered. Now the Super Pro Feather - that's another level of risk altogether. While I've never cut myself with one I always had the feeling of impending doom. The slightest mistake and my head would be rolling across the floor. It would appear that maybe the performance of the blades is the same even in single edge razors.

Aristocrat and Ladas. Another great "detente" setup.

    April 5 Fool's Pass #3

I had a small chip in the edge so I honed the razor, this was my first successful honing from a 1K, usually I just touch up the blades. Todays was a big razor, my Hart Steel 7/8, it feels safer doing the Fool's Pass with a heavy razor. Only a small weeper under my nose. In the picture it looks like there is blood on the scales, no idea where that came from.... maybe the four shots of soju affected my memory.

Don't worry the shaves will improve as you gain confidence and muscle memory. I found my improvement came in jumps, all of sudden I would see a big improvement then no improvement for a few weeks then another large improvement. So far no blood is a great results.
