As long as it wasn't tiger bad or stupidly narrow forcing a steep blade angle I should be able to at least finish my 5 to 7 day trial. I'll be doing this all over again without the worst 2 blades with the Sam Seong razor after short month or 2 break for DE and SE safety razors.
I might shave this evening if my face doesn't feel too bad. Right now I can still feel the pain if I rub my stubble ATG.
Oh no. Not even close to that bad. Now, you could make it that bad by grinding the edge against concrete. Sounds like a good plan. Interested in how the Sam Seong performs. Haven't seen anyone use it yet.
I've heard that the balance is different and that it weighs a bit more. The guy selling them on eBay says he likes the Sam Seong better. I guess I'll find out.
Arko April in Russia! April 6 Razor - 1959 Gillette Super Speed Blade - (3) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Arko Post - Cold water rinse, Alum, The Veg Running a bit early today so I'll go ahead and post up. Day three for the Sharp Star and I have absolutely no issues with this blade. BoS for the lather today and it did a fine job, though I think I prefer the Silvertip from yesterday. Nothing wrong with it today just didn't seem as rich perhaps? Anyway, two passes today, smooth as silk, still great audible feedback. I had a few touchups at the end and called a DFS and decided that was enough. Now that I've had 15 minutes or so to chill and recheck it I'm calling the baby, baby. That's two out of three for this blade as well as for the Platinum Lux. Tough choice between these two and how to place them for the month. And, tough competition for the rest of the Rapira pack. Tomorrow is the Rapira Super Stainless (pink/black/blue) which I have only used once before and way early last year. It is the Rapira I've used the least so it should be fun. And interesting. It's raining in the Lou today and the boys are also reporting rain and a huge thaw on their way home. Said something about alternate transportation through the Russian mud. Not sure what they meant or even if it's a good idea.
Took a quick break today after 4 shaves with my GEM pushbutton and had a quality DE shave to keep the technique up. But excited to give a fresh GEM stainless blade a go in the morning. Hopefully with slightly improved technique and a fresh blade I'll have a great shave
I just pulled out a Sam Seong razor and a bundle of Dorco Barber's Blades from my mailbox. I think I'll find it very hard to keep to my blade progression and to keep to the CJB until the blade progression is over. I'll post up some comparison pictures showing the differences between the CJB and the Sam Seong later when my phone has enough life in it to flash.
Neal, I always enjoy reading your commentary at the bottom of your SOTD. Forgot about the funny pages, Neal's post script is a must read!!
SOTD April 6, 2016 Prep: Hot Shower. Noxzema Razor: Gillette British Rocket Blade: Voskhod Lather: Caties Bubbles Ocean Grove Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Disruptor Post: Thayers Rose Petal WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Capri Wonderful summer like shave. It's going to be 90+ degrees today and CB Ocean Grove was a great match! Fruity and Floral and that great CB lather that almost lathers on its own. The RR Plissoft Disruptor has more backbone then the RR Plissoft IMO. Let bygones be bygones
Wednesday, April 6, 2016 Nuavia Blu BSB-2 Vie Long two band fan The One Blade Feather FHS-10 #1 Witch Hazel, Chatillon Lux La Foret de Liguest Toner & Aftershave It has been a while for me. It feels good to be back. Outstanding two pass near BBS shave this morning. The BSB-2 was amazing, whipping up some major suds. Nuavia is a top drawer performer. One Blade gave me another close, comfortable and efficient shave. Finished with a Chatillon Lux post shave toner and aftershave, La Foret de Liguest. Have a good Wednesday everyone.
Razor: Gillette Tech 1939-45 Blade: Dorco ST 301 Platinum SK (4) Brush: WDC-7 Olivewood Handle, Silvertip Soap: Route 66 Sweeny Todd A/S: Pinaud Lime Bowl: Knockout Shave Shave are getting better each day. I would say that today was a BBS. The Sweeney Todd shaving soap is brimming with the aroma of delicious Sicilian blood oranges, with their signature spicy berry undertone, blended with a hint of fir, warmed on a rich woody base. This is an amazing shave soap. IMHO. it is a long lasting, slick lather protective cushion and glide soothing post shave conditioning.
Hello TSD - 3rd shave of my April straight razor focus: - Jeeves of Hudson Street "Conservatory" - Mühle STF - Eduard Wirz (Basel), 5/8'' wedge - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser - Jeris Musk This razor returned from honing today - and boy is this thing sharp now This was my first shave with a wedge blade, feels (and sounds) quite a bit different from a full hollow razor. The shave itself was very smooth and efficient - no tugging, very pleasant. First pass WTG with some nice reduction, second pass XTG left some stubble especially at the jawline. So I decided to perform a third pass ATG just to chase the baby a bit. And it worked (sort of): cheeks are BBS now, at the passage from neck to face I can feel a bit of stubble ATG, the neck itself feels pretty good. One tiny blood spot, not a cut, just a little scrape I guess. Despite the ATG pass not much skin irritation, the Aftershave burned just a liiiitle bit more than last time. So this approximately 100 years old razor did a really good job - though I think it is a little "silent" for my taste - I prefer the crackling sound of a full hollow blade
