Woke up this morning to whisker length that’s similar to what I normally see before my last pass of a daily shave. (Great shave yesterday!) So I decided to do a one pass, ATG shave, with buffing if necessary to attempt BBS.
Though I mention the BBS chase, my primary objective was to do an " @
Bama Samurai " (with Laser-like Focus) assessment of my blade angle. I love the design of this razor and would commit it to my top ten if I can learn to use it as efficiently as possible.
So I borrowed the large makeup mirror of SWMBO, you know the type, with magnification that allows examination of each and every whisker. By doing so, I learned that the optimum angle was just a bit more acute than I thought (further away from flat on my face). It seems to be at the spot of the most audible feedback.
A bonus benefit of using the magnification mirror is that I got an even better view of my beard map, which was a bit different than I thought, and as you’d expect, in those areas that I refer to as my trouble spots. I also learned that I’m still not capable of doing ATG around my upper lip, corners of mouth, nor most of my chin. So this is where I do the most buffing. Perhaps a different blade may help with this razor? I plan to try 3 or 4 over the course of the month, including the potential of using a Twin blade.
In the end I achieved the BBS goal, but most importantly I learned a bunch about this razor and my beard. Try using a mag mirror from time to time - at least to check technique.
Cheers!
