Not a very good shave today. I whipped up some awesome Arko lather with my Satin Tip but then it was down hill from there. The Durablade wasn't so durable and failed hard on its third shave. I felt lots of tugging even after the first pass and I really don't know why I didn't switch it out mid-shave. My Nivea PSB actually had some work to do today and felt quite nice after the rough treatment my face got from the blade. The end result is DFS but it was a rough road to get there. Hope you all did better then me this morning. Have a great day my shave brethren!

I agree with that Robert at first.

    I felt the same way.

Once I got used to the head geometry and how to maneuver it to shave how I do it became one of the best for me.

    Same with the 1924 (shovelhead).

    All very good shavers now!

Good luck buddy. Hope it works out for you!

    THURSDAY
'Repeat Thursday'— I had such an enjoyable initial shave yesterday using my newly-acquired King Pelican that I decided it was worthy of a repeat performance. Route 66 'Sweeney Todd' soap and aftershave balm, both excellent. Another exceptionally smooth shaving experience!
    Have a great Thursday, everyone!

    Arko April in Russia!

    April 7

Razor - 1959 Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - rapira-super-stainless.jpg (1)
    Brush - Vie-Long 12601 The Pony
    Soap - Arko
Post - Cold water rinse, Alum, The Veg, Nivea

The first week of April is already done. Wow. Time never slows down. And, that means it's time for a different Russian in the razor. Up next is the Rapira Super Stainless. This blade is pretty popular with people, though the cheap price may have something to do with that. I've used one that I can vaguely remember, way back in the early days of safety razors. Well, ok, so that's only a year and a half or so. Anyway, off we go.

Vie-Long 12601 did a fantastic job of face lathering the Arko today. I'm getting the feel of the ponies down better. Got a pretty good splay on it today without tying the insides of it in knots. And I got a fantastic scritch from the 65% tail hair. Love it. First impression on the blade was.....it's not quite as smooth as the Sharp Star or Rapira PL, but.....it isn't all that bad either. In fact, after getting through about half a pass it seemed to smooth out. I was working the angle a bit and dialed it in. Still gives lots of good audio feedback. Good reduction on the first pass. Second pass XTG and I started to notice a bit of redness on my neck. Not too bad and I didn't feel anything. Just saw the color change. Third pass ATG with an aggressive slide on the neck. We're talking 45 degree angle on the slide if not a bit more. And there it is boys and girls and all the ships at sea.....the baby is in the room. Pretty impressive since I wasn't sure I'd get there.

Now, the irritation level....just a bit of redness and a bit of bite from the alum and the Veg. I added Nivea to cool it down and all's well. Super Stainless blades and I don't always get along. In fact the Nacet is an example of a SS blade that, while I like it occasionally, really leaves some irritation. The only super stainless that I use with any regularity and actually like and doesn't leave a ton of irritation is the Ladas....a stablemate of this blade. So, I may have another super stainless I can live with. Two more days will tell.

The boys checked in. Still trying to make it out of the glorious motherland in time to be here for MAYhem. I put Ivan in charge of May, by the way. Said they found a great Russian motel alongside the road. Sent me a picture of the digs. Pretty luxurious if you ask me, and even includes a car wash!

    Razor: Unknown Tech
    Blade: GSB (1)
    Pre Shave Oil: Homemade
    Brush: VDH Badcer
    Soap: Italian Barber
    AS: Dove. Men+ Care
    Newspaper Date: Jan. 11.1944

Back on track, with a nice slick, frothy lather by Italian Barber, the 1st pass was a smooth ATG, 1 small weeper, which washed away. The 2nd pass, WTG was just as smooth but left a little irritation on my upper lip. A small clean up and came out with a good DFS. I`ll have to get used to the GSB (it`s different). I like all the #s on it. Well satisfied.
