  3. Scored a GEM Automatic Stropper last week. It did not have a handle, and was very crusty. I cleaned it up over the weekend. I also made 2 strops for it. One I loaded with stropping paste red. The other no paste.

So today I made handle for it. As you all know it is a bastard thread. It happens to be the same thread for the ER 1914. The thread size works out to be 5/32 (.157) 24 TPI. I plan on getting an old ER Radio blade all tuned up for a shave tonight. I will use my ER 1914. Anyhow here are some pictures. I do not have a knurling tool so it is a smooth handle. I sandblasted it for some texture. I used O-1 steel to make it.

  5. Tonights shave.

    Tonights setup

    Razor: ER 1914
    Blade: ER Radio blade
    Brush: Jayaruh #57
    Soap: Haslinger Sandalwood
    AS: AV Classic Blue Ice

Tonight I used the 1914 with the Radio blade I stropped up on my GEM Automatic Stropper. The first 2 passes were pretty smooth. My third pass I could detect that it was not quite as sharp. It was not buggy at all, but I could feel it degrading. This was the cruddiest blade I have. I will give it some more love on the strops. Hopefully it will get better. I know I will need to learn the proper way to use the strop. That is part of the fun.

Anyhow got a DFS shave with it and no irritation. So I am a happy camper.

    Have a great evening.

  15. I like my new Type F. I'm not only gives a great shave, it looks pretty doing it. It gave me a very nice two pass shave with almost no touch up for BBS.

  16. Great job. If you were physically located closer I'd have the knurling placed on your handle via son's CC school shop. Looks good either way.

    Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG
My 1st shave with this razor/blade combo. Noticeably sharper blade, yet not as smooth shaving as the Plus Platinum. Dolphin smooth skin in the end though.
