Directly, no. Indirectly, yes, it's possible. In combination with other things, it can mean a drier smoke. Also, what do you mean by the shape of the pipe? Bowl Shape? Overall shape? Like you could say a Churchwardens shape (meaning its longer stem) could taste different than say, a nose warmer. The Churchwarden will have a drier, cooler smoke; thus will have a different taste.
Thank you for this info. I guess I meant bowl shape however I see what you mean about a longer stem changing taste Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
As far as the bowl, the main thing is good hole placement. Also, a very thin walled bowl can smoke hot if you're not careful to smoke at a proper pace, or don't "sip" the pipe. That won't necessarily affect the taste of the tobacco, but smoking too hot or too fast (closely related) can result in "leather tongue," where your tongue has a singed feeling. That certainly is a less enjoyable experience. After good engineering and walls of appropriate thickness, bowl shape is mostly aesthetic, what you like. Straight vs quarter bent vs half bent vs full bent also doesn't affect the tobacco taste per se, but it can impact the overall experience. The more bend in the shank, the harder it is to properly drill the shank. Some people, especially as they are starting with the pipe, will get more "gurgle" and a wetter smoke with full bents in particular, and even half bents. A deep bend stem and/or shank can be harder to clean. The easier it is clean a pipe, the more likely someone is to clean it thoroughly. The cleaner you keep your pipe, the better it will smoke and taste.
Yes. Burley blends are better in bowls that are wider than they are deep. Burley has low sugar and needs air to burn right. Virginia tobacco burns better packed loosely in bowls that are taller than they are wide.
After dinner, PS 17 English Luxury in a Lorenzo sandblast. Latakia just seems right for the evenings.
Selecting the late evening bowl... I just killed the Marble Kake and am out of leftovers...contemplating opening a tin. ☺
The rain held off here, although it may be a stormy night. After dinner a very nice smoke with PA in the Matt Van, the pipe is almost broken in. I guess today I would have to say I liked the PA better than the CH.
You won't find Yerba in too many places in Alabama! You will however find buttermilk, juice (fermented and not), "Coke" (any cola is "Coke") and corn squeezins.......from the store, and sometimes not, LOL. One summer during college, I worked in the woodlands management division of Kimberly Clark, and in some of my woodlands work I found a still, quite obviously still in use. I pretended not to see it, kept walking away from it, and found another route back! Never went back there either.
