    Razor(s): Durham Duplex/Personna blade(1) & Gillette G4 (5)
    Brush: VDH Badger
    Cream; Proraso White
Pre Shave: Palmer`s Cocoa Butter Moisturizer
    WH: Thayers Lavender
    Bowl: Local Antique Shop
    Newspaper Date: Feb. 3,1944

Tried the Durham again, this time with a Personna blade, mainly to see if it was sharp enough to shave with. It will pull a lot if you don`t slant a little but it`s going to take a steep learning curve. About half way through, there was some blood letting, a styptic took care of that. Switched over to my "go to" G4, finished 1st pass. Second pass, ATG and as usual, the G4 came through like always. A splash of Thayer`s WH, let dry well, applied Dove. Men+ Care AS. Amazingly i got a pretty good shave, near DFS. Best wishes to all. BTW, the pickled pork went for 31 cents per lb.

The jowls are the cheeks of the pig. It is cured just like bacon. You fry it just the same. I guess its a southern thing...dunno. Lots of diners have it on breakfast menus here. Good stuff.

Oh, i had bacon jowls as a kid on many occasions( very good, similar to regular bacon). Got the Palmer`s at Walmart. It`s not very costly and is nice and slick. Smooth as well.

Beautiful razor - great to have an heirloom like that. And congratulations on your first straight shave :happy088:

Yes, it is one of his tall handles for 24mm knots. The color is called "Amber", but it's more like translucent dark chocolate ;) Looks and feels great, very comfortable to hold - one of my favorite brushes.

You`re right about the jowls, but not exclusive to "the South". I was raised in So. Cal. it was mostly an era thing, rather than geographical. Now, "grits" is a southern dish and delicious with scrambled eggs.

Shades of what i did this morning with the Durham Duplex(Personna blade) and had to switch mid way through to my G4. Quite an experience. But it is fun to experiment, one really learns from trying new things. Good luck in the future with your straights.
