Good morning friends. Today was my first shave with the TSD SS and it was great, nice slick, easy to lather with a mint scent and super duper cold! :smiley freezing: Another wonderful smooth shave with the N1, man these razor are fun and zippy to shave with. Extremely easy to maneuver. Beautiful freezing finish with my MITA balm. Have a great shave and a great day guys. :happy069:

You'll likely be seeing a variety of these hybrid shaves for a while. I'm determined to learn straight shaving but I can see it will take patience and a prolonged learning curve. Here's day 2 of my focus on learning the straight. Like before I only did a single pass above the jawline with the straight. One very small slice on my lip from getting frustrated and losing steady focus. :rolleyes005:

Today's set up is all Val - my grandpa. Both razors are from him. Nice to think that the last face before me that they touched was his. :happy088:

That is totally awesome. Not very many can say they have done this. Let alone even from their father.

    Thanks,
The brush is from the Simms Brush Co. (Canadian mfg). I restored it and added a nice finest knot.

Today will be the first time using Dapper Dan Aftershave. It apparently is a vintage scent from the 20's-30's. The movie "Oh Brother where art thou" featured the Dapper Dan pomade.....thats where I heard of it before.:D

Karl that's great you are getting to use something handed down from your grandfather I thing that is the ultimate memory you can have of your grandfather . Yes you are correct the learning curve will take time don't rush it and pay attention to the spine of the razor in relation to your face. Take your time and don't give up . I found a copy of a 1906 book it's called "What every man needs to know about shaving " I think that's the name of it I found it on another fourm called the razor and stone . I read that and that is how I learned to use straights . Be patient and good luck.
The book is called shaving made easy

    Sunday's shave:

    Rolls Viscount
Chiseled Face Groomatorium Cryogen pre-shave gel
    Maggard Razors synthetic brush
Chiseled Face Groomatorium Midnight Stag soap (sample)
    Clubman Special Reserve aftershave

With the Rolls being discussed, I decided to break one out today, and it was like meeting up with an old friend I hadn't seen in a while - great shaving. The Rolls looks scary to the uninitiated, but it is actually a smooth and comfortable shaving razor.

I also used the opportunity to try out some goodies from yesterday's shaving convention.

Cryogen pre-shave gel from Chiseled Face Groomatorium is a non oil based pre-shave that delivers a lot of slickness along with the intense menthol blast common to all Cryogen products. This one's a keeper, and I highly recommend it to serious menthol junkies .

Midnight Stag soap is . . . different. It delivers the excellent thick slick lather I've come to expect from CFG soaps, but the scent is something else.

This is a quote from the CFG website: "Scent is made of the following notes: Russian Leather, Motor Oil, Hoppes #9, Birch Tar, Oakmoss, Gasoline, Smoke, Cedar, Cade, Bergamont, Vanilla."

I swear I am not making this up.

My wife's take: "You smell like you've been working on a car."

I washed off my face with unscented facial soap and went with some relatively subtle and refined aftershave: Clubman Special Reserve.

Glad I only got a free sample.

That's the same thing without the menthol.
