My Grey Goose arrived today. Very cool looking and very light compared to the stainless one! :mail: On deck for tomorrow's shave. Sweet! I'll post my thoughts later as to how it compares to the B3.
I've been a bad Mongoose owner of late, I haven't used it in some time. I've really been taken back by my Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip. Well today I shaved with the Mongoose and had a fantastic 3 pass shave. I will not neglect my Mongoose ever again.
I just keep mine on the counter. I grab it at least once a week no matter what I'm using. I'm never disappointed!
Sweet razor Mike! Looks a lot better than I thought it would and the name's very catchy. Looking forward to your review.
Beautiful razor. I'm still glad I managed to get a black one, but I would have been happy with the grey one as well
4/16/16 AlumiGoose V1 with Feather Pro (3) I have been splitting work morning shave duties between the Cobra Classic and AlumiGoose. It does make for a very nice comparison using them back to back with the same blades choices. The AlumiGoose is so light and nimble. It is not quite as sleek as the Cobra Classic but I do appreciate the light weight of the AlumiGoose. The shave this morning was very nice. I went with the same pass routine, I have been using with Cobra, XTG followed by ATG. After some minor touch ups I did catch the baby and ended up with a BBS shave. This is not something I strive for on work mornings but it is nice when it happens. I find the AlumiGoose V1 to be very close to the Cobra Classic in terms of efficiency and aggressiveness. I am looking forward to taking the AlumiGoose out for another spin tomorrow.
This morning's shave: Tuesday April 19, 2016 Alumigoose 2 Mongoose w/CBW custom red cedar handle Feather Pro Super (11) Chiseled Face Groomatorium Cryogen pre-shave gel Maggard Razors synthetic brush Queen Charlotte Soaps Iced Key Lime Bootlegger's Arctic Lime Blast This custom red cedar handle weighs about half that of the handle that comes with the Alumigoose and brings the total weight down to 1.25 oz, about the same as an injector razor. Looks pretty cool, too. I now have 11 shaves on this Feather Pro Super blade and is is showing no signs of dulling. We're having unseasonably warm weather here in San Diego, so out come the menthol products. --Bob
First shave today with my Alumigoose V2 in grey AKA the grey goose. The first and most obvious difference here is the weight. Very light especially compared to the stainless B3. While I like the heft of the stainless razor this one feels very comfortable and nimble. The handle design is perfect, the flat surfaces allow for a comfortable grip and great control. So onto the shave. I got a nice slick lather going with TOBS and loaded a feather pro blade. The tolerances are very precise with no play whatsoever. I noticed two things initially. This razor is milder than the B3 with the same blade. This might be due to the lighter weight but I think there is a bit less blade exposure. Maybe this is because of the polishing of the stainless head. Occasionally I will get a bit of drag with the B3 this one has no drag at all, it moves very smoothly across my face. So... The end result after 2 passes was a BBS irritation free shave and nine hours later still pretty darn smooth which is what I've come to expect from mongoose razors. I'm going to give the Grey Goose 5 stars. I'm going to need some feather pro supers to try in this one, might be a perfect combo.
4/19/16 AlumiGoose V1 with Feather Pro (4) A fantastic shave this morning with the AlumiGoose V1. I decided to mix things up on the 2 pass shave. I went ATG for the 1st pass followed by XTG for the second pass. With some very minor touch ups along my jaw line, I managed to catch the baby. The AlumiGoose and Mongoose are the only razors I attempt using for an ATG first pass. I really enjoy this razor/blade combo.
Second shave today and it confirmed what I thought, this razor is milder than the B3.A great shave was had but I used way more pressure than any of the other razors I have. Great results,I mean you can't cut your self with this razor using the pro blade and nimble and quick she was. So a quick visit to Amazon and some pro supers are on the way. The next couple of days I'll use my B3, the supers should be here for Saturday's shave.
For me the Alumigoose 2 and the Feather Pro Super blade is a match made in heaven. I've got a dozen shaves on a blade now and it just keeps getting better. If I load the same blade in my Mongoose SS B3 it tries to eat my face. Well, maybe not quite that bad, but if I don't do everything perfectly it's weepers and irritation galore. --Bob
How do you like that Stirling Electric Sheep soap? I just ordered 3 samples: barbershop, smart dressed man, and executive man. I have never tried Stirling before.
I'm a big fan of Stirling soaps in general, and I particularly like Electric Sheep. It's made with mutton tallow rather than beef tallow which gives it a rather odd scent - not unpleasant, just odd. It has some citrus oils that help the scent. But forget the scent, this is some of the slickest soap known to man. Tomorrow I'm going to be using something called Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo, which is Sharp Dressed Man with a bunch of menthol. Sharp Dressed Man is one of my favorites and I'm a hardcore menthol junkie so it should be awesome. --Bob
