    Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG

After shaving with this combo for the first time yesterday, I woke up this morning with 24-hour whisker growth that was about the same length of what is normally left on my face prior to my last pass of a three or two-pass shave.

Today’s shave was just as fine. For a blade as sharp as this one, I’m constantly wary of nicks and cuts due to operator error. But the angle on the F is apparently very forgiving (I’m not perfect with every stroke). This razor/blade combo is the best I’ve experienced in regard to both comfort and sharpness on every stroke. No nicks, cuts, not even a weeper and I have no irritation at all! Remarkable.

    Cheers!

    Ok, snapped a quick shot:

Uploading pictures has become ridiculously tedious. It took me 40mins of starting and stopping for this to finally get uploaded. think it's time for a new DSL modem. I'm kicked off internet several times a day, and upload is nonexistent at this point.

Anyway, the butterscotch handle has the little side tabs on the spring. The Amber and Blue do not, and the spring is tabbed into place.

Hard to see but the 1st One is Type E 2..It looks like an Early One that Opens by swinging the spring to the Left..The 2nd one is a Type G 6 with the Clear Amber handle & lastly the Blue one is a Type G 1..:angelic007:

That's a Schick Band Razor ..They take a Cartridge System that is like a Roll of Blades ..Like a Roll of Tape..Gillette Cloned it with the Techmatic..The Gillette Version was Cleverly made to take the Schick Cartridge but the Schick Version wont take the Gillette Cartridge's..Cartridges are Expensive & they get a Lot of Bad Press..Never used One..I can buy these in the UK for pennies..The Gillette Techmatic that is..:)

The one I fixed was not nearly this loose. I'd guess it's time to play taps... :sick002: If you got this through eBay I'd file for a refund as the razor is defective.

Be prepared for an amazingly close and smooth shave with the H. :happy036: She is the Queen of my Den and the King goes in hiding when she comes out lest he be challenged to a shave off.

Today's shave was the first ever with my latest acquisition, both for me and the razor : a Wilkinson Empire set.

    Wilkinson Empire razor
Wilkinson Sword Hollow Ground wedge blade (1)
    Stirling 22mm synthetic brush
    Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap
    Stirling Sharp Dressed Man aftershave

The Empire set had just arrived in yesterday's mail. I usually only use wedge blade razors on the weekends (when I have more time) but I didn't feel like waiting. :happy093:

The razor cleaned up nicely, showing no evidence of ever having been used.

The handle style and the case date this razor to circa 1932.

There are just so many cool things about the Wilkinson Empire razors: A wedge blade razor manufactured into the 1950's, a unique roller comb, a stropping system similar to the Valet Auto-Strop, and it's even adjustable. Turning the knob on the back actually moves that roller comb forward or back under the blade.

It looks sort of like an Auto-Strop on steroids. :signs021:

While I have no way of knowing for certain if the razor has ever been used, the blade and strop definitely arrived unused, the seals intact on the little wooden blade bank and the strop still wrapped in tissue..

I carefully unpacked the blade. It was packed in grease that had long since dried up, but had done its job. I cleaned the blade with alcohol and put it under the microscope.

All I could say was . . . "wow." The decision not to wait for the weekend became a no-brainer. I loaded the blade in the razor and gave it a good stropping, using a strop from another Wilkinson.

Shaving with the Wilkinson is indeed a unique experience. The roller comb literally glides over the face. I fiddled around with the adjustment and settled on a setting slightly toward the agressive side of center. The smoothness tends to make the razor seem less aggressive than it is, although it is a pussycat with the comb cranked out all the way.

It was a most satisfying shave. Sure, I have a number of wedge blades for various razors that I've honed to a pretty good edge, but it's not quite the same as using a freshly unsealed blade.

On another topic, the Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap is not a new scent - it is Sharp Dressed Man with menthol - a LOT of menthol. Most refreshing! :happy088:
