I have made a decision going forth to only purchased lucite or acrylic stems, mostly for ease of maintenance. I use softy bits, so vulcanite mouthfeel doesn't matter!
Although I don't use softy bits, lucite is my preference also. I like the mouthfeel of vulcanite a bit more, but not enough to make up for the oxidation.
Earlier H&H Anniversary Kake (bulk) Every bit as nice as the tinned version, and a tobacco I love! Very moist in the bag, it really benefits from a half hour in the air before packing very loosely. Classic VaPer flavors, heavy on raisin and pepper.
Totally agree @Erik Redd. I've read an old American native quote that goes something along the lines, "if you have a disagreement with someone, sit down with them and smoke a pipe. After the second bowl, you're starting to not disagree so much, and by the third bowl, you completely forget about the disagreement." That's the general gist of it. It really is relaxing to me.
That is a really nice pipe, and I've heard good things about Hal O' the Wynd. I totally agree with supporting local shops when possible. Building a relationship with them can really pay dividends. That is a really nice shop! They would give The Briary a run for the money. I'm with Chris, I'm on the next bus to Seoul!
I have often thought that the Natives, with their lack of exposure to modern chemicals, drugs and processed foodstuffs, may have found tobacco to be a profound and even entheogenic psychedelic experience. Notice they tended to smoke pipes ritually....
Late night pipe.....Esoterica Peacehaven in the Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation pipe. Sorry, no pic. Tony
Yep! This really is my favorite pipe. Looks good, feels good in the hand, just enough bend to easily clench, excellent quality briar, and superbly engineered. Peacehaven is a light Virginia, very relaxing.
OK dinners on me. Today was my first smoke in the new pipe. Decide to go with OGS to break it in. I will give the Hal O' the Wind a try this week. Sunday afternoon smoke: It smoked very nice, pleased with my purchase.
