If you have been following my SOTD shaving saga, you will know that I am away from home and all that I brought with me was a tub of Haslinger Coconut. It turns out that I cannot use this product. Besides the below average shaves it offers, it started really irritating my face badly. Proof: Some very kind members offered to ship me a new soap, but I declined, thinking that I might find a suitable replacement here in Hattiesburg, MS. That was not to be, so I broke down and ordered a tube of DRH Arlington cream from Amazon. Naturally their 2-day shipping takes three days to get here , so I am taking a break from my shaving routine to allow my face to recover. In case you are interested, I have PIF'd the remaining Haslinger to our friend @Robyflexx who was first to respond (what a surprise) that he would like it. I was very happy to oblige. Perhaps he will have better results than I did. So the burning question remains...am I still in? I await the verdict with baited breath.
That is a mighty thin line.. " did he cross it or is he merely on it?" Lol I'm waiting anxiously to find out...
Ok, I think I'm out. Last evening, after having purchased the DRH Cream, which BTW, I do believe was well within the boundaries of a necessity purchase, I was perusing , gulp, another forum's BST thread and found a sale of a 95% full bottle of DRH Arlington AS and an almost new tub of Arlington cream for a very reasonable price. So..., I cancelled my Amazon order and bought both of those products. Admittedly, the AS was an unnecessary purchase and pretty clearly violated the spirit of the NB '16. It's been fun and considering I made it this long, I am not too ashamed of my weakness, especially under these circumstances.
Wait!......what?!....soaps count? I just replenished my summer soap stock. That counts? I thought it was just hardware?!!!!
I may have set my own rules but what will the jury's vote be on selling an item privately and then buying something new at a vendor for equal or less than the "income" from the sale?
It depends on your goals. If you goal is not to spend any additional money on shaving items this year (that was my goal) then the scenario you outlined doesn't violate that. I really don't see that as any different than a trade, as long as shipping isn't ignored. Just my opinion.
Okay I am gonna be the curmudgeon here, I say that if you "buy" instead of "trade", you are GUILTY. (But in the grand scheme of things, NB16 is really more of a personal journey/goal and there is no penalty should you fudge a bit)
