Peyote played a very prominent role in one of the best books I've read, The Echelon Vendetta, by David Stone. It is a dark novel in some ways, one of 4 featuring a CIA " cleaner," Micah Dalton. I highly recommend it, but beware, it has some extreme violence vividly described by the author.
Hey Chris, I've just now noticed that you're a moderator! When did this happen, have I just been oblivious? On second thought, don't answer that... Congrats, I think.... Tony
I've smoked it but I can't say I've tried it. My Captain Black hybrid blend probably shouldn't count.
Only time I had a wife she hated anything I did. I'm hoping the upcoming wife #2 genuinely likes me this time around. My current female lead doesn't enjoy my smoke but she knows I do and she doesn't hate it so she puts up with it. She says she will let me know if anything smells really bad. so far she has expressed her dislike of anything cherry. She is very fond of the shaving collection and, she is the reason I need to buy a new vintage open comb Gillette. It has become hers with or without my permission.
Latakia is just a very distinct, earthy, cigar like scent bomb. I know I disparage it often...but, it's actually one of the vaunted leaves of pipedom. Many blends out of England contain it in condimental amounts.
Now you'll have your hands full with that rogue bunch over at POTD, LOL. I hear their radical leader resides in Colorado, you may want to keep an eye on him!
Like many, I started with aromatics but they always turned into something I didn't like about half way through. Then I discovered an Altadis blend that the Briary called English Aromatic, which was a mild aromatic with a condimental dose of Latakia. From there, I went full throttle into Latakia blends, then gradually changed to Virginias and VaPers, and that's pretty much where I've stayed. John Aylesbury English Mixture is a bit of a departure that I'm really enjoying. But as far as Latakia, I rarely smoke it anymore. Dunhill 965 is pretty much the extent of my Latakia blends now, and that's on rare ocassions.
Same for me, started on aromatic pouches, then tobacco shop bulk aromatics. Then, in about 93, the old Bengal Slices. English Latakia flake, since doscontinued and reintroduced. After that, I went full on Burley, like Lane BLWB, and stuff like that. Then off to cigar land for a few years, then back to pipes....started with OGS and have been Virginia Flake fan ever since, though lately aged, yet uncased or topped, Burley flakes like Wessex are the variety choice.
