Thanks Billy. I remember seeing you recommended the Personna's for the G's elsewhere (hence my remark). I was thinking of trying the I1 with the twins. Also the repeating razors as they need the thicker blade. Finally, I think I saw somewhere they (twin blades) won't work in M adjustables.

    SE and Shave Den Sunday

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: GEM Blue Star
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
    Lather: TSD Almond
Post: Alum, Witch hazel splash enhanced with Aspen, TSD Aftershave milk, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

I'll be around in this thread a good bit this month! I'm going to focus on G1 and Featherweight shaves for all of May. I'll use the G1 during the week and the GEM on the weekends. Today starts that process.

Unfortunately, not a great shave overall. The blade felt tuggy. I palm stropped each side 7-8 times before using. Perhaps that was a mistake or not a good idea? I've used the Blue Star blades before with good success, so I'm not sure what happened.

Anyway, that's the point of this month - to improve with these razors. I'll post my shaves and meanderings in here each day.

I hope you all are having a great Sunday!

Twins in the I1 are great. Twins will work in Schicks I types and above BUT NOT those with Rinsing Levers like the I2. I have one in my M. It gives a fantastic shave.:happy088:

They may work in an H as well but I haven't tried that. Definitely not in an E or G. Some have tried them in a D and F and reported great shaves but I don't know that you'd find a unanimous "all clear" on that one. Repeaters are a different story and I haven't heard of any issues using them there.

Palm stropping, corking, etc is normally done to eliminate initial harshness on the Gem stainless steel blades. I don't see any reason to do it to a carbon steel blade - their life expectancy is short enough as it is, and I've never noticed any initial harshness with CS blades. Besides, the Featherweight is a mild razor. I've not experienced any harshness even with a new stainless steel blade loaded in one. In fact, I have used a Featherweight to "break in" a new stainless steel blade for a couple of shaves before moving the blade to something more aggressive.

Also, how old and/or how long have you had the Blue Star blades? Carbon steel blades have a shelf life and the edges can deteriorate over time.

Or, you may have just had a dud blade - it happens. Tugging/pulling is almost always a blade issue.

Thanks, Bob! I bought those blades in a drug store in late March of this year. I've used two from that box previous to this one with no problems. I won't palm strop the next one. I do have some stainless blades waiting to be used but wanted to use up the carbon blades first. I'm only using the carbon blades once.

I hope it was a dud blade. I really enjoy the Featherweight and got exceptional shaves the other times I used it.

    Sunday's
    [IMG]
    Razor: Schick E3 w/ Chick blade (4)
    Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair
    Lather: Tim's Soap Clean Cut
Post: my current favorite, Clubman Original
    [IMG]
Had an easy BBS today in 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG)
The Clean Cut soap always provides a slick and creamy lather and it smells great too!
Only ended with a small amount of irritation on the neck, my skin was a little dry despite my usually sufficient prep which is most likely the culprit. Other than that a great shave! Have great shaves everyone!

Two-day growth, three-pass shave - WTG, XTG, ATG
Too easy. Razor handles very well, great reduction on each pass, dolphin-smooth finish. I'm enjoying my extended look at injectors month after month.

    Today's shave: Sunday May 1

    Ernst Scharff Rapide razor
    Rapide wedge blade (1)
L'Occitane Cade soap, aftershave balm, and EdT (soap not pictured)

I finally got around to honing the (apparently unused) blade that came with this Rapide, and it took a pretty nice edge, resulting in a pretty good shave this morning. :happy088:

It will be a while before I refill with the Chick blades (have a supply of Ted Pella), but I tried out the Pal with Ted Pella blades, which I find to be very good. The Pal gives a lot of feedback when shaving. You certainly know when you are in the zone. It was a very enjoyable and efficient shave. Close with no weepers, etc. Given it was NOS, I had to remove the red blade insert. It was very snug, and the spring was exceptionally tight, in a good way. I'm sure the next load in will be smoother. The Pal has joined the rotation for sure. Has anyone tried Barber blades from Amazon? Perhaps, I missed a review in other threads.

Recently I have been going through the film noir canon. Recently I was watching Dark Passage 1947 with Bogart/Bacall. Bogart escapes from prison and is helped by a mysterious woman (Bacall). When they get to her place she soon tells him he needs a shower and a shave and lo and behold, he shaves with a Schick G1. We don’t actually see Bogie in the first part of the movie and I think the person shaving (just see his arms) is a stand-in. But still it is a video image of the Schick G-type from 1947. It is just after the 15 minute mark.

As a recap the other two movies with Schicks as has been previously reported in the forum are Live and Let Die 1973 with Roger Moore using an L and Selma 2014 where the King character played by Oyelowo uses what looks like an I1 (hard to see and brief).

Let's not forget perhaps the most famous one, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, with Cary Grant in 1948:

Hard to tell for sure, but given the 1948 release date I'd guess it's a Schick G.

And what a great line: "Because I prefer the cool, clean sweep of the tempered steel as it glides smoothly--"

The description does say they were previously known as Personna Injector Blades. They are platinum coated. Seem to have a decent price point at 12.99 for 20 with free shipping.
