Took a cob with Smoker's Pride Mellow out on the patio this morning. I wasn't sure The Christmas Pipe is a beauty.
After a brief rain, Smoker's Pride Mellow in the CG. Burley blends and cobs just seem to go together.
Yes it is, but unfortunately, it has a hot spot on the other side, and the finish bubbled a bit. It's still a nice pipe. Maybe there is an imperfection in the briar that causes that spot to get warmer than the rest of the pipe. I hate that it bubbled on me.
After lunch, while sitting in the shade. It's getting to be that time of year where you need to find shade.
I've been wanting to try the Brigham system for awhile, so have been keeping my eye open on eBay for an estate pipe I could get cheap. I didn't want to buy a new pipe and then discover I didn't like the system. Brigham is a Canadian pipe company that used to make the pipes in Canada, but now have production in Italy. They are very popular in Canada but don't come up for sale much on eBay in the US. The system is a rock maple tube that absorbs moisture and can pass a pipe cleaner and you can supposedly use the filter about 20 times and then clean with hot water or everclear and reuse. I managed to get a 2 dot billiard and was happy to see it came with a new filter, so I didn't have to order a box of filters to try it. I gave the bowl the salt treatment and cleaned the stem with alcohol, and it was ready to try this morning. I tried it with a mild burley blend for the first smoke. The pipe smoked very well, I'm a little surprised at how thin the tube is. I didn't realized you could make a hardwood tube that thin. The last image is the filter after the smoke. I'll have to try a goopy aromatic next to see how it does, but of the filter systems I've tried so far I think this is the best.
