Exactly! Functioning perfectly based on its engineering. Oh, and no the tabs are not exposed on this thing either. Here are a couple of pics to help you appreciate it.

First off thank you to each and everyone of you guys for your support and prayers for me after what happened yesterday. I really do appreciate it! On the plus side I have an interview on Tuesday for a possible job. It's not working with food sadly but it is full time and good pay so I will take it. I got an offer for being a Loss Prevention Officer at a store (I have a buddy who works LP there so I got lucky there plus a guy just quit.) and will let you guys know how it goes. Again thank you all for the support and well wishes. It is people like all of you who make TSD so wonderful!

    Bring it in guys....group hug!!!!

Also @NCoxSTL although you granted me permission to grab the cast iron the wife 86'd the whole plan.... something about a judge not letting me off for assault with a deadly weapon because I got permission from you and other nonsense...I think she underestimates the pull you have with the Cartel.....

    On to the shave.

DFS with only 2 cuts but after the shave the CJB passed away. Gave it a quick cleaning and the spring broke off. Well there goes $35 down the crapper.... The wife said I better duct tape the blade in a popsicle stick or something until she get's her $35 worth out of the CJB. 5 shaves is an awful short lifespan. Oh well I will eventually replace it when I am working again and have the money or save up for one of those beautiful Feathers.

I shouldn't feel too bad about the results of using this Soyuz. The guy who used the original one ended up looking like this -

The most amazing thing about the entire episode is that Komarov knew it was a suicide mission, as did Yuri Gagarin. Gagarin even tried to get himself put on the flight to save his friend's life, but because Gagarin was a hero for being the first Russian in space (or more likely to survive going into space.....long story) Komarov wouldn't let him trade places. There were 203 known faults with the craft, all of which were serious enough to cause complete failure. It was launched anyway due to the need to satisfy the political leaders and as a propaganda piece for the USSR. My opinion of the Russian Cosmonauts of that era? High respect.

One more little known fact about the early Soviet spacecraft. They had a special compartment built into them to hold the wheelbarrow the cosmonauts used to hold their, well, let's say courage.

Ok, so I made the last one up but it's fitting.

Yeah that spring is the weak point. Sorry to hear it took a dive on you so soon. And yes, she underestimates the Cartel greatly. Well, ok, so maybe not a cast iron skillet, but I'm pretty sure we could get you off if you used an aluminum omelet pan.

Are there any books that are the USSR equivalent of "The Right Stuff"?

  8. NCoxSTL

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

That is a very good question. I will have to look into that. I know there are a lot of articles that have been written over the years once they declassified the records of that era. Also some great research has gone into the "missing" cosmonauts that were exiled or in some cases likely died at some point as part of their job and were simply erased from the history of the day. There was no room to admit failure on the part of Soviet leadership. Also, of course, saying the wrong thing about the party could get one erased from pictures and books as well.

I was expecting at least 6-9 months with it. Oh well... All out of aluminum pans... will a brick suffice?

    Thank you.

That soap is a strange one, though. It's another one of those products sold by a reputable firm that makes you wonder what is going on. It's a soap which is presumably intended for use by barbers- people who make lather professionally. To an extent, I can accept that the target audience might have a different approach to making lather and, even, to what is a good lather. But I just can't fathom what they would do that is that different in order to get a better lather out of this soap.

In the soap's defense, I'll at least say that it is not Tiger-3H bad. That would assume a soap which had the lathering properties of a block of wood.
I actually did one a while back, following the advice from a vintage ad to rub it on the face like a shaving stick. An okay experience, as I recall, comparable to some bad Williams' ones.

A change of pace Saturday for me since I am using 1 new soap and 1 razor that I have not used since November 2014. Perfect Storm is one of the new scents from Route 66. The scent is certainly fougere like but I find in lighter and more herbal. The scent strength off the puck is not as strong as MdC Fougere but seems to build during the lather and actually lingers post shave more than MdC. I will certainly enjoy using this scent. The performance of the soap is stellar as expected.

The Merkur 34c HD was the razor I started my DE shaving journey with in September 2014. In fact I used it exclusively until getting my first vintage Gillette in November 2014. I just put it away and never seemed to reach for it as the months went by. So I decided to load it with a new Feather and have a go with it this weekend. I can recall that in the beginning the Feather in this razor completely tore my face up. That was not the case today. I can not recall having a smoother, more satisfying shave with the 34c. In fact it seemed like I would really have to work to cut myself. It just goes to show that technique truly does matter. The 3 passes provided a near BBS shave. A splash of mentholated witch hazel followed by Fine L'Orange left my face feeling soft and pampered. A great way to start a Saturday. I hope everyone has a fantastic day.

It's Saturday morning! The @Norcalnewb shave is in the books. Details tonight. The @Mr. Freeze93 shave for Sunday is lined up as follows:

    Blade - 7 a.m. High Platinum
    Razor - Rimei
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush - Vile Long 12705 - The Horse

Super mild Chinese razor and an unknown blade...but....I've used its cousin and hated it. This could be interesting.

Ok @Keithmax you're up for Monday's shave. 1-15 for blade, 1-15 for razor, 1-6 for soap, 1-7 for brush.

    Have a great Saturday everyone.

    It’s Hydro-Magic May!
I’ll spend the month with my three Schick Eversharp razors that sport the Hydro-Magic shaving/cleansing head - Types I2, J3, K1

No shave today, the garden won’t mind me being unshaven…BUT,

As today marks my one-year anniversary at this fine forum, here’s a blast from the past - my first two posts at TSD! (I seemed so much more succinct back then. :think002:

btw - I eventually won it, thanks @RaZorBurn123
Big deal, a bunch of DE blades from the Russian cartel! (just kidding, it was a bunch of great stuff (plus the blades).

Also that day, I announced I was jumping in feet first and committed to give this retro shaving gig try. The 10 day wait for gear was agony.
