I guess one step at a time, start him with a DE, and please forgive this shameful suggestion a can of goo to get him started over to the light. That's how I started at first. My Grandfathers DE, some Wilkinson sword blades, and a can of goo. now I have a decent set I think.

 

My first DE shave was also with goo. Barbados so at least it wasn't a gel. Didn't take long to decide I needed a brush and soap. Now I won't go near the canned stuff.

I won't either, I think I still have a half a can that's hiding from me somewhere in the bathroom. Honestly though I keep a couple of disposables and that can around for situations like Mr. Freeze had.

Switching to the DE razor is the big thing! I get perfect shaves from Barbasol Red. Technique trumps tools.
