Neal, nobody learns as much from success as they do from failure. That's why we're experts around here!
I loved the Mythbusters. And that was a crazy episode. Never knew it would be so tough to run two trucks into each other like that on purpose.
It's funny how we all started DE in different ways. I actually have been using brushes and soaps for over 10 years with carts. I just preferred them to canned goo. Switched from carts to a straight and then dialled it back to a DE about a year ago. Never going back to carts. Next is to buy a rolls!!!
[quote="Bama Samurai, post: 1052918, member: 12811"Hi Joe! Thanks for the compliment! And welcome to TSD and the 30Day Crew! Some of what you'll read here is fictional/satirical. We'll stop and explain anytime, and don't get confused... We love new guys, and we love shaving! Pain Stick - CJB salon razor or similar The Cartel - a fictional underground group set to uphold the honor of the finest blades in the world. "What's the worst that could happen?" - our motto! I am Chris, the fictional Samurai of the American Prairie, but really I am just a southern kid from Alabama (live near Denver now) who likes to wear overalls and play in the dirt. And we're all glad you're here![/quote] American imperialist fools, they think the cartel is fictional.
You stroned a Tiger? (Sorry- I love that word.) That should either fix it or break it totally. I'm starting to think that the only way to approach that blade is as if you are a poor Nigerian (target market for that blade) and hone it on the nearest rock. Then start sending SPAM asking for money to buy better blades...
@Joe Babb I am glad you made it over to the 30 day thread. There are a lot of good folks and among all the humor and shenanigans, you will find people that will help make your journey in traditional wet shaving more enjoyable.
05/08/2016 Merkur 34c HD Feather (2) Simpson CH2 Synthetic TSD Yin Yang Witch Hazel Myrsol F/Extra Whipped Shea Butter I really enjoy the peace and quite of early Sunday morning's. Of course it is easier when the wife and daughters are sleepy heads. Either way it allows me to enjoy a relaxing leisurely shave. Unlike work mornings, I get to enjoy and savor each step along the way. The subtle cooling effect of the Noxzema face wash set the stage for the TSD Yin Yang. The first and prominent scent to me is lime but as I continue to rub the stick on my face the lavender opens up some. I am so glad I decided to use this razor for the weekend. It has provided a clear example of how much my techniques have improved. The shave is not as close as I can get with other razors but the overall comfort is off the charts. I finished off with a splash of Myrsol F/Extra. It want be long before the house is a beehive of activity getting ready for our road trip to my Mom's house for the day. I'll enjoy the peace and quite with another cup of coffee for a little longer. I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.
SOTD May 8, 2016 Injector/SE Focus Shave Den Sunday Prep: Warm shower Blade: GEM Stainless Razor: GEM Featherweight Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic Lather: TSD Lanolin Bay Rum Post: Witch hazel splash, TSD Iced Bay Rum, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up Better shave than yesterday but still not overly comfortable. The Featherweight is a cool razor and has worked well for me in the past. I'm going to chunk that blade and try a new one next weekend. My focus right now is using a Schick G1 during the week and the GEM on the weekends. So I'll be back to the reliable G1 tomorrow. One pass with touch-ups and ready for the day. The TSD soap lathered up beautifully as always. The Iced Bay Rum at the end burned a good bit today, evidence of sub-par performance from me and the GEM. But it has cooled down nicely with the menthol. The Nivea balm always helps tie it all together in the end. Have a great Sunday!
SOTD May 8, 2016 Prep: Hot Shower. Noxzema Razor: Mongoose B3 w/MR20 handle Blade: Feather Professional Lather: Soapy Bathman Tropical Lime Brush: RazoRock Three Color Plissoft 24mm x 57mm Post: Thayers Rose Petal WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine L'Orange Noir Great shave. With all the new SE coming out I'm glad I have a Mongoose because it's a fantastic razor. I do like what @Colonial Razors has coming out, The General!! Soapy Bathman Tropical Lime is outstanding!! The RR Three color Plissoft is a great value and brush. Fine L'Orange Noir is a house favorite. Everyday is a second chance ..
In fact I have, last night I had a good conversation with Neal, and Bama Samurai. And I will make sure to not talk bad about any Russian Steel. LOL
I took it all the way to a 1k bevel set and worked my way up through my progression, ChOx and FeOx pasted strops and plain leather. Much harder than it sounds I'm sure. I'm wondering if it made it usable or if the steel is so crappy a decent edge can't be made on it.
The @Mr. Freeze93 shave is in. Headed to the land of happy sales so the report will be this evening. However, here is your Monday @Keithmax setup: The Wildcard was chosen, so the soap and brush were from that original pick. The razor and blade were from the Wildcard shave randomization that he also picked for. So, here you go. Razor - 1912 Gem SE Blade - Gem Carbon SE Soap - Marvy Brush - Vie-Long 12705 I'll be honest, I breathed a bit of a sigh of relief. However, a carbon SE blade in a razor I've used once and on Marvy? And, the horse isn't always the greatest brush with questionable soaps (or even MWF, more tonight). Well, it could be worse (think Tiger on Marvy) but at least you have the satisfaction of making me smell that crap for another whole day tomorrow!
