D1 makes it a first quarter 1958 Flair tip, and the TV Special was the 58 model. Used to promote the Cavalcade of Sports.

So how do I know if it's a TV special or just a 58 flair tip? I've seen several people saying their 58 flair tips are TV specials.

 

Someone may have a better answer vbut from what I can tell there wasn't a specific razor made for that. There was a different case. Anyone who can elaborate or correct me?

The knurl pattern on the TV Special is a little different. There are no lines that run across the handle until the TTO knob, only with the length of the handle.

 

There is a 2013 PowerPoint from CzechBlades floating around on the Web (https://www.icc-cr.cz/Ffiles/milan_masa_success_story.pp) which says that their target market is Africa with a case study of Nigeria. They cite one of the "Threats" as being cheap/low-quality competition from China and India. Does this mean that we have the Tiger and the (Flying) Eagle in a race for the bottom?

In the end, though, I still have the same confusion as you- how do they sell enough to justify producing them let alone actually stay in business. The presentation also mentions a recent distributor being an NGO providing support in areas such as medical health. So, maybe (I suppose), there is some business in bulk sales to charitable relief agencies, but still...

Why am I having images of an NGO handing out Tiger-3H blades, the locals coming to the same conclusion that we have (unfit for shaving) but then coming up with some innovative repurposing of them (e.g., skinning knives)?

Kudos to @DDuckyMark for a valiant effort.

Makes sense. Definitely a tricky soap, though.

I suspect that cool mornings are done for a while around here as it was 75 degrees at about 4:30 this morning. It was also below the dew point, so I needed a cooling shave this morning. The Stirling Glacial Wintergreen was my soap of choice. It was the first time I had used this soap since I started using straights on a regular basis. My face was frozen and my eyes were watering. It definitely felt good. The razor was also up to the task this morning, as I got a nice, smooth shave with DFS results. Florida Water seemed like an appropriate AS and it was a great way to wrap up the shave. I hope everyone has a great day.

Pretty nice shave again this morning with the G1. Not quite as close as yesterday's shave but still pretty good. I would touch-up around my jaw a little more if I did it again, but that's okay. All in all a good shave in one big pass with touch-up.

The Semogue brush is a fantastic face latherer. VDH Luxury isn't my favorite soap. It's not a bad soap by any means but there are others that I have that are better. I want to use the VDH up so I can move on to something else. I'll use it a lot this month and probably into June too.

This was shave 7 on the Chick blade with no signs on weariness. I want to get to 10 shaves and then I'll swap it out.

Having inner ear problems this morning and will be going to the Doctor later this morning. At least I managed to get in a fantastic shave. The Route 66 Twisted Tweed is inspired by Green Irish Tweed. I really enjoyed the scent and the performance was as expected exceptional. I went back to the Feather Super Pro blade after a couple of days with the Feather Pro. A very nice 2 pass shave, XTG and ATG, with minimal touch ups ended in a near BBS. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday

 

May 10, 2016- Soap/Lather Focus

I was definitely distracted this morning. I had intended to try using my floppy Chinese Pure Badger with the Williams today and totally forgot until the moment the VdH Boar hit my face. Worse, I apparently muffed the initial load as the lather ended up being thinner than usual and quickly starting dissipating (revenge of the Marvy?). I ended up stopping with a CCS and a weeper on my chin.

Need to get my head in the game for tomorrow...

 

Could this be the plot line for a 80's B movie ?

 

Well, that answers the question once and for all- it's not about the honing or end-user prep, it's about the actual metal the blade is made from.

That leaves Neal's question of how they sell enough to actually make a go of it. Personally, I'm leaning toward bulk sales to NGO's who don't actually try to shave with them. That and/or the possibility that the Nigerians have come up with a non-shaving use for the Tiger-3H.

There is, of course, the somewhat absurd thought that crossed my mind on the way to work: What if there was once a bad batch of Tiger blades and, by a stroke of bad luck, some largish quantity of them came into the possession of a key person on one of the forums and the rest of us have just been passing around blades from this one bad batch to show how bad they are? I guess that would require finding an outside source for "new" Tiger-3H blades... and a lot of intestinal fortitude.

Mayhem continues, back to an unfamiliar razor. Still don’t know the model, but this thing is so easy to use. Second shave with an injector. Riding the cap and finding the angle is easy. Two passes, and a half pass that included buffing on my neck. Caught the baby, no irritation on the Alum! Whoo Hoo! This might move to the front of the line for days when I can’t have any cuts or irritation for work.

This is my soap to finish this month. I have about 2/3rds of it gone, so I will be using it every other shave to try and use it up. I have two more soaps inbound, B&M 42 and TSD Purple Haze. I need to clear some of my existing soaps out. I should have a for sale post up soon for a few soaps and aftershaves. I have a few high dollar brushes, but this one is my favorite, and the knot is from an $11 brush. Just goes to show, YMMV.

 

Looks like a G1 to me.
