Thanks, Doug. New job is still pretty crazy, but halfway though the two months it will be operating. Pretty much as soon as we get everyone up and going we will have to shut it down until next year. I am already working on lining up my next job after this one. Been with the same employer for 13 years, but have had about 15 different jobs. The joy of project managment.
Half safe razor? I saw a post in The Haul with a razor @mrchick had gotten where someone had removed one side of an open comb. I got to thinking about this, and it would be kind like a pain stick turned 90 degrees. The ultimate challenge for riding the cap. Then I remembered that I have an OC razor that I have tried to sell that no one wants. Ten minutes later... Loaded a Russian up and I'm off to shave. It's Mayhem, what's the worst that could happen, right?
I knew somebody would ask that. I have the hardest time describing scents and have just a few scent descriptors in my vocabulary. My vocabulary is as follows: Manly Girly Woodsy Citrusy Smells like food Floral/flowery Herbal Spicy Fresh Clean Crisp Stinky Yucky I will try to do these soaps justice with my scent descriptions. I'll start with the Perfect Storm which I found to have a subtle but fresh clean scent. It had a nice light floral scent that is definitely not yucky. The Twisted Tweed has a stronger scent that I would describe as a manly, crisp, woodsy scent with a hint of floral. This soap is is one of my favorites next to the citrusy Sweeney Todd. I hope my olfactory skills have helped you make an educated choice. Have fun!
Hello from a very wet STL. Two rounds of major thunderstorms today, the last this evening with more lightning than I've seen in years. Internet access is seriously whacked out at the moment so I'll have to double up on shave reports tomorrow. Lost cell service for a bit as well. Looks like the phone is up so Tapatalk is my world at the moment. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
I'm a storm lover. Have chased a few back in the day. So no worries other than apparently the cable company got fried a bit. Oh and the baseball size hail in some places today. Welcome to the Lou in the spring! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Razor: cheap stamped head with aluminum handle, half OC, half no gaurd Blade: Astra SP Soap: Jabonman Lima Incienso Brush: Dubl Duck M-2/ Omega 10066 Boar Post: Cold Water, Alum, Thayers' Aftershaves: Fine La'Orange Noir I figured this would work really well or really bad, I didn't figure there would be an in between. I know from my straights and pain sticks that the best shaves I have ever gotten have been without guards of any kind, and being able to tweak the angle of the blade to my sweet spot. I typically do this by sound and feel. I forgot this soap has menthol in it, so it wasn't actually a great choice for this experiment. Love the lather, scent, and post shave feel though. I have never used this razor before, so I started with the comb side on my cheek for the WTG pass. Got the sound and feel quickly. Flipped to the no gaurd side and went to work. Based on this shave, I think the biggest thing the gaurd on a safety razor does is lets you put more pressure on the razor and takes that pressure away fro the razor's edge. I didn't cut myself, but have some irritation from it. I did manage to give myself a few good weepers while Changing the angle on my chin. I was at DFS with one pass. Just a few hairs shy of BBS on my second pass. Best shave I have gotten with a DE razor. I am going to have to use this again to dial it in. @mrchick, you are on deck now!
MAYhem 2016 May 11 Razor - Rimei Blade - (2) Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Soap - Arko Post - Cold Rinse, Alum, Nivea Miracles do happen. Charter managed to get internet back up and running so look out, I'm back! Busy day today with two rounds of storms, massive hail in the first round, massive lightning in the second. All we were lacking was a tornado. Can't win 'em all. @Drygulch picked the shave today, with the help of the shaving gods, and it wasn't horrible, wasn't great. Another day on the Shark, the second this month, and I'm still not impressed. The mild Rimei stopped any chance of bloodletting but the blade is not the smoothest for sure. The Arko lather with the Silvertip though, perfection achieved. So if it's any consolation I was left feeling a bit irritable by feeling that Shark do its thing and only get me to high CCS. I thought I'd give it a barely DFS but I can tell now that it didn't do that good given the amount I'm feeling already. So, another "meh" shave from a "meh" setup and we're off to tomorrow's @PLAla shave. And, with the exception of one item, it was nearly a dream shave! Blade - Dorco 300 Razor - Aristocrat Soap - Tabac Brush - Wolf Whiskers Take out that Dorco and I'm dancing in the den! Oh, what the heck, I'm dancing anyway. Next up after tomorrow is @Joe Babb and his pick of all 1's. More on that tomorrow! Hope you all had a great day. Sorry I'm running late. I'll make sure Charter understands that massive lightning storms are no reason to delay access to TSD! Idiots.
I will. But, just changed my mind. I will be cutting up a Feather Popular TTO. Blade will be Shark Super Chrome (or worse) with blue Barbasol straight out of the can... Mañana! What's the worst that could happen?
