Ahh so I may not be straying too far away from MAYhem after all? I sure hope it comes in a big box as SWMBO grabbed the steak knife when she saw I bought it so I may need to sleep in the box. Do you have one? Also on an unrelated note do you have a pull out couch? For some reason the wife has banished me from the bed and I am not allowed within 50 feet of her since I bought the Goose.
Razor: Schick G1 Blade: Schick injector (5) Brush: WDC-8 Brass Handle TGN- Finest Soap: Route The Black Pearl A/S: Myrsol Blue Same gear as yesterday. Wanted to make sure it was either a close BBS, or a BBS shave. Today it was a BBS shave for sure. The TGN Finest is a great knot, you wouldn't go wrong buying this Finest Badger knot. The Schick injector is an excellent shave tool. This is the 5th shave with this blade and is still performing great. Route 66 The Black Pearl is another amazing shaving soap from Route 66. Myrsol Blue is also an outstanding A/S.
I borrowed one from @Rufus T. For a month. Don't have a pullout but do have a nice reclining couch. I have the house to myself for a week so bring vodka and caviar. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Today's shave was with a new acquisition. A 1904-1914 WR Case & Sons covered tang straight with pressed celluloid scales. I haven't been this excited for a razor since I got my Case Brothers 1902ish razor back from Glen. That one shaved like a champ, so I was really looking forward to this one. It was sold as freshly honed and shave ready. It wasn't. I have seen a lot of good things about the work of the person who honed it, so I am pretty sure this is a fluke. That said, yikes! I should have put the razor down after the first stroke. I instead did two passes and got a SAS. Lots of irritation. I was so blinded by the sexy beast of a razor that I didn't inspect the edge the way I should have. Jeeves of Hudson Street and the boar gave a great lather. The cold water burned, so I went ahead and put the alum on. Since I was fully awake at that point, I went ahead and put the Fine American blend on. It burned, then cooled down. Going to work on this razor this weekend, and see if I can get a better edge on it.
That's a very nice looking brush Doug. I've been trying to decide on a badger knot and that looks like a nice one. Can you describe it a little?
I would say it has a mild backbone, not floppy and excellent tips. It explodes with lather. I would ask @clint64 as he suggested the Finest to me. I also found TGN an excellent company to deal with. I really enjoy shaving with this brush.
I bought a synthetic from TGN and have been happy with it. I'm just having trouble deciding which badger grade to get. It sounds like this might me a nice one.
It is reasonably priced. You may also want to look at a Envy White knot. It is out of this world. IMO.
I did not shave today. I instead set up this lovely scene that looks like an electrocution hazard and I've been playing with it most of the day. What you can't see is the two fishing poles tied to the painters pole withe the wire hanging from them. The 2X4 has a Yagi antenna bungied to it that I made from coathangers.
May 13, 2016 It’s Hydro-Magic May! I’ll spend the month with my three Schick Eversharp razors that sport the Hydro-Magic shaving/cleansing head - Types I2, J3, K1 We interrupt our regularly scheduled program….again! Leaving on a two-week business / pleasure trip on Saturday night. I plan to take two razors that I consider candidates to become my travel razor the Schicks C1 and H2! Yesterday I tried a Personna blade in the H2, today I’ll go for broke on Friday the 13th and try a Fergie-Feather (a Feather AC Pro blade cut down to fit an injector). ...my little contribution to MAYhem! Hot Shower Razor: 1947-1953 (Schick) Eversharp H2 Blade: FergieFeather (1) Soap: Route 66 - Sweeney Todd Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic TSD Witch Hazel AS: TSD Yin Yang One-pass shave (XTG, ATG) Closer and smoother with this blade compared to yesterdays’ Personna. This set-up will make the trip! So it’s on the road with the H2/FergieFeather and the C1/Personna*74. Will post during the week when I can. Have a great 10 days brothers! Cheers! RT
Oh I agree the TGN finest knot is fantastic, I got my best lather last night and will probably look for more with this knot.
you won't be disappointed with TGN Finest knot, I used one last night, I got from Clint and man what a difference it made. I felt warm lather for the first time, except for at the barbers, when shaving and it was glorious!
The TGN Finest is a great knot at a very reasonable price point. I find them to have good backbone and scrub. You can increase or decrease the backbone by altering the depth you set the knot. If you want to step up the price point, I would suggest taking a look at the Envy White knot from Envy Shave on Etsy. The knot is very dense with excellent backbone and scrub. For the money it rivals knots from Shavemac that cost much more.
Thank you Doug, @Joe Babb and @clint64 You guys have helped me narrow down my choices. Now to figure out which brush I want to reknot.
Busy day for me... Hope everyone has a great weekend. I will be online later trying to get caught up. ☺
