Razor: Antoni Tadross & Co Strop: Drygulch Chromexcel Horse/ Linen Brush: Erskine with TGN Finest Badger Soap: The Shave Den Purple Rain Post: Cold Water, Alum, Thayers Aftershave: Fine American Blend Mayhem by way of new gear. This shave included a new razor, brush I re-knotted, and a new soap. Typically, I would only do one new item at a time, but... Razor was sold as shave ready, and I ended up with a DFS plus with almost no irritation, but it wasn't as smooth as I like. I think I am turning into a snob about my edges. Brush was reknotted a month or two ago, but I haven't used it until now. I was thinking I should try a badger that wasn't as floppy as my other one. I think I just like boar. The star of this shave was the soap, The Shave Den, Purple Rain. I ordered two two ounce pucks and melted them into a container. @Queen of Blades outdid herself on this one. Her description is below: "In memoriam of one of the greatest musicians. His music brought happiness and joy to my life, and that is how I wish to mourn his passing. Fragrance is nature's music. There's a reason fragrance and music both have notes. Fragrant notes for Purple Rain are; Lavender, Jasmine, Leather, Patchouli, Amber and Aquatic notes" To my les than well trained nose, I got a clean, subtle, and complex mix of scents that unfolded, rather than slapped me in the face. Lather was very slick, and protected well. Scent didn't linger long, so this will be a good one when I am in meetings all day. If you haven't tried one of Joanna's soaps, you really should. That are high quality products that don't get enough recognition. Once I use up some of my aftershaves, I will get one from TSD to match this scent.
Head shave MAYhem style!!!! Razor: CJB W/ Superglued Spring Blade:..................Dorco....... Brush RR 24mm Finest Lather: Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo Post Shave Care: Maggard Alum/ Thayers Aftershave: Fine Snakebite/ Band Aids/ Tears Late night head shave after a long painful day. Loaded up the ET with my RR 24mm brush and began applying it to the cranium. Let it sit for a minute so my head can get nice and frozen. I decided against my better judgment to give the Dorco another shot. I figured seeing as I have already signed my death warrant I may as well make it interesting.... We are going only ATG for all 3 passes tonight!!!! Start my first pass and struggled finding the angle so the CJB skipped the whole pass occasionally swiping away lather and hair and the other half landing right into my skin. Managed a few small nicks but achieved probably the worst cut I have ever had since I found my grandfathers Straight Razor when I was 6. I felt it dig into the back of my scalp but didn't know how bad until I went to lather up for my second pass. As soon as I apply lather to the back of the head and sit the brush down I noticed the white lather I had on my brush had turned the most amazing red. Wonderful... Oh well two more passes to go! Make it through the second pass with no new cuts or anything and get pretty smooth. Start my third pass and screw up again angle wise and get a good cut the whole length of the blade right above my ear. Feel around and chalk it up a SAS and start cleaning my head and trying to stop the blood flow. About a solid 3 minutes with the Styptic and Alum stop the bleeding so I throw on some Thayers. Let that dry down and splash on some Snakebite and began to weep at the pain. Ok I didn't weep but it hurt... a lot... walk out the bathroom and feel a warm trickle on the back of my head just as SWMBO says "Hey babe.....you know you stabbed yourself in the back of the head right....looks like you took a layer or two off.... I'll get the band aids.... It may need stitches...." I quickly explained that I will just have the DR put me back together on the first as I will be right back to filleting myself again in the A.M. and I don't want to make multiple trips. I am thinking I may need to live out the rest of the month in a hamster ball just so I live to see the 1st...
There's no shame in admitting you really did cry like a scared little girl. We won't judge you. Seriously. Trust us on that one. Pansy.
Well, we'll allow that. Just don't try to say you were watching a movie too. I mean.....wait.....that would explain a lot.
While I was there I had to ask where I could find relatives of Bama Samurai. The told me that the Bama Samurai are from the south and Hokkaido is to far north. They did say there is an unconfirmed rumour that the Bama Samurais can adapt to cold weather environs but that is unconfirmed.... Then again my Japanese is not very good.
But he wrote her every day for a year!!! That is so sweet...uhhh I mean.... damn it he's on to me.... time to flee.....
05/16/2016 Mongoose B2 with Hempel Ti Feather Pro Super (7) Rubberset 400 with Omega 49 Knot Mystic Water Eucalyptus & Spearmint Witch Hazel Myrsol F/Extra Whipped Shea Butter Happy Monday everyone. A fantastic shave to start a new week. I am really enjoying the Mystic Water Eucalyptus & Spearmint soap. The scent reminds me of Wrigley's Doublemint gum and the cooling effect of the menthol is nice on these muggy mornings. I big boar whipped up a nice thick lather quickly and easily. Going with a 2 pass shave, XTG and ATG, followed by minimal touch ups provided the desired near BBS shave to start the week. A splash of Myrsol F/Extra and I am off to start the week. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
SOTD May 16, 2016 Injector/SE Focus Prep: Warm shower Blade: GEM Stainless PTFE Razor: GEM Featherweight Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic Lather: C.O. Bigelow cream with M-bomb Post: Witch hazel splash, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up No picture today since I changed my setup at the last minute. I went with Bigelow cream lathered in my scuttle. Great lather. A few drops of M-bomb livened it up some for Menthol Monday. The GEM razor mowed through 36+ hours of beard growth with no problems. I did get one tiny nick on my Adam's apple where I was being careless. Really smooth shave for one pass with touch-up. The GEM Featherweight with a good blade is a nice razor. I really enjoy it. Have a good day everyone!
I have not had a bad experience with a russian made blade. But then again I have not yet tried the rubie
