MAYhem 16th, 2016. Razor: Alumigoose Blade : Kai Captain Brush: JR #23 Silvertip 24mm Lather: Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo Post Shave Care: Maggard Alum Block/ Thayers Medicated Superhazel Aftershave: Fine Snakebite Decided to break out the Goose for one last shave until I go back to finishing the month off with the Pain Stick and Old Type... Popped in a Kai Captain Blade and had the best shave I have had this entire month... no actually I think this is the best shave I have ever had in my life. No blood, nicks, irritation, or weepers. Effortless BBS in 2 passes. Alum was silent and the Snakebite didn't burn at all. I'll keep this short as I know the lack of blood will disappoint all of you. Back to the CJB tomorrow.
I am just glad she is finally getting into it a little.. up until a few episodes ago she said she was only watching it because Aaron Paul is "dreamy"....:ahem:
He never hit me as dreamy in the show. Granted I don't play for that team, but, yeah. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Well, that is a new shipping record from anywhere on an order from the Bay. Wow. I ordered the Greager on Friday from a seller in Washington State. Estimated arrival was the 20th. Ordered on Friday so not looking before Tuesday or Wednesday. It was in my box this morning. Here's the view of the new and improved CJB. Same shape as the original CJB, but has an updated look on the holder. And, a rubber handle on line with the Feather SS so it's a much nicer feeling grip. Also, it's polished instead of just the plain metal look of the original. It's also heavier by 4 grams. The gap on the door isn't as big as it looks here. Got a good reflection off of the flash. The spring is a clone of the Feather spring which is much stronger and reliable than the original CJB spring. Pretty well known weak spot on the original CJB so hopefully this new design will give it the durability of the Feather. Hope so anyway. The main difference in the head design between this and the Feather SS....well, this is actually a clone of the Feather RG, so that's the difference. The SS has a lip on the edge that gives a bit of a "cushion" as you angle in. The RG, and the Greger and original CJB, tapers down right to the blade. No lip. Sometimes the SS's design can be a bit of an issue in setting the razor down, though once you get used to it there's no problem. So, happy to have a second pain stick in the house and waiting its turn! And, while working on this post, I scored a vintage Giesen & Forsthoff straight razor on the cheap at the bay. Looks to be in above average shape. Will need a bit of work but it's a project to add another straight to the collection. The cool thing is.....seller is in Quincy, IL. Just two hours away so should be a fast ship.
I guess my shave was so bad it made me a bit forgetful today. Didn't even mention tomorrow's plan! It will be the second @Bama Samurai shave and it features the Ladas blade. Not bad, not bad at all. Knew he'd take care of me. Arko for the soap....that works. Tweezerman for the brush. Ok, cheapo but I can manage. And for the razor? RAPIRA!!!! The razor that turns Voskhod deadly. Somehow it's appropriate that his choices would pull that razor. And, that means that for my Wednesday back to work shave it's up to @English expat to choose again! 1-15 for blade, 1-15 for razor, 1-6 for soap, 1-7 for brush.
Tuesday Focus shave Today's razor of choice is a Hart 6/8 straight. 4 passes, no blood, no irritation and BBS. All is good. Irritation A Closeness A Smoothness A Sharpness A
I see the Dark Side is calling you. A good place to start is Whipped Dog and order a sight unseen straight and a poor man's strop. It is how I and others here got our start. It is a cheap way to test the waters.
While loading up the Angry Russian and the hurt hinge I noticed that the blade exposure is uneven on the Angry one. On one side I have a very scary aggressive razor and on the other it is very tame and mild. I haven't noticed the difference while shaving. I don't let the guard bar touch my face anyway so its all just blade on face. The blade gap on this razor is really wide on both sides. I'll have to pay more attention next time I use it and see if I can't tell a difference if I'm looking for one.
