Open Comb Central - The Place With Real Teeth (No R41, Hybrid or Closed Combs)

I shaved with it this morning. And it went decent. The handle is waaaay thinner than I'm used to. I paired it with the new Gillette platinum plus blades and I got lots of weepers and some irritation.. I don't think the blade and I are on the same page.. I used that blade in a red tip and it didn't agree with me with that razor either .

 

Hello all, Good Morning! Happy Sunday! Today I chose to shave with the newest addition to my ABC set collection. Here's the lineup-

1909 Gillette ABC set Shell pattern razor, Basketweave pattern case.
1944 Gillette Blue Blade (3).
Kent BLK2 badger hair brush.
Proraso Red canned goo.
Captains Choice Sandalwood as splash.
Vintage English Leather cologne.



This morning I had a great shave. This razor set is perhaps one of the best deals I had ever gotten from eBay. I don't believe it has been used much if at all. It has the wide teeth on the comb guards which seem to me not only more efficient, but a smoother shaving comb. I had two days growth on my face, and this razor/blade combo whacked it right off. I'll call this shave a two pass DFS because of my trouble spots. All in all a great shave!

I have a question regarding old types and single rings. What comes to mind when you hear a razor called by either of those names?

 

I've been using a German made travel razor from the 20-30s. It is unbranded except for a monogram of PF or FP. It has turned out to be a really nice shaver. I thought is would be aggressive like the Gillette OTs, but it is not.

 

I have a Long Comb New that arrived, but I'm on vacation. Can't wait to get home to try it out.

On another note, I shaved with my PAA DOC today using a feather blade. Not great. Ended up with irritation and not a close shave.

ok, so my iKon B1 Deluxe arrived yesterday..... I grabbed my Duke3 Best, and whipped up some Phoenix and Beau Unscented...well, after many happy years of using a Weber ARC, this razor is a step up...firstly, it is noticeably more aggressive than the Weber, but is so smooth, that it's a very comfortable razor to use.. it took care my 3 day growth with ease, whereas normally, I would have had to make numerous passes to feel right. A definite thumbs up from me!!

 

Congrats. I love using my Ikon B-1 OC. In fact I used it this morning.

 

The first razor is my choice for open comb shaving, which I used this morning. I put a custom handle on a short comb Gillette head and base and had it redone by Delta Echo Razor Works. It's in my daily rotation for shaves not more than three days of beard growth. When using an open comb for longer beard growths, I use this long comb Gillette head and base with custom handle. It will also be redone by Delta Echo eventually, when I decide what colors to use. Trying to narrow down the combinations I have thought of so far.......................
