I have just discovered this great product. As you may already know, my wife just gave birth over the weekend to a beautiful baby girl. She decded to breast feed this time and got a tube of Lansinoh Brand HPA® Lanolin that is primarily made for chapped, cracked, and sore nipples. This is supposed to be the worlds purest form of lanolin. I have provided a link to a site that provides alot of info on this product. I will say this, the stuff makes an awesome lip balm!! Now I have to figure out the best way to add this stuff to some soaps and creams. Should I just melt it down and stir it in? With all the hooplah about lanolin based shaving soaps like MWF, this stuff should be a fantastic shaving cream/soap additive. Any opinions, advice, or suggestions? http://www.lansinoh.com/index.php?s...and%20Lanolin%20for%20Breastfeeding%20Mothers Jason
I may be wrong, but in the case of Mitchell's I think the lanolin is added to the mixture prior to the saponification process....I have read of another that added that lanolin to their soap, I don't believe they achieved the desired results....
Moved it to "soapmaking and lotions" And no, I don't think you can add it to soaps and (shaving-) creams. At least not after the saponification process as Neale already mentioned.
Yep Mitchells is added prior to saponification, you could try adding a small amount of it to some melt and pour shave soap though, just melt a small amount of the lanolin and add it to see what happens. The worst that happens is that you end up with a shower soap...
I am out of clay right now so I am not making any shave soaps, I will look and see if I can pick up some lanolin at Walmart the next time I am there, usually they have some and I could try making a shower soap just to see how it works out. I could definitely use the extra moisture this time of year.
