I just learned of the 30 day rule . I will have and be using all in Now 28 days. I am researching and truly interested.
I also prefer the Kai blades. Like you said, they seem smoother. Although a Feather in a very mild razor is a thing of beauty. The Kai, though, delivers with a bit less irritation for me.
Welcome aboard! We're about to start the June edition so it's a great time to set a rule for the month and start next Wednesday. Or before if you want. Join in the discussions and have some fun along the way!
So far so good. I definitely enjoy using straights as I really find it adds to my shaving experience. Using a safety razor at the gym has been nice, as it forces a some change up on me.
Sunday Focus Fresh off the stones is my Hart Steel 7/8. I was going to stop at 3 passes but everything was going so well I went of the 4th pass and the BBS. I bit of sting from the alum but BBS. Irritation A- Closeness A Smoothness A Sharpness A My smart alec girlfriend is in town for the week. After running some errands she came home while I was honing the Hart razor, amazing no smart ass comments. After honing and stropping on the pastes I was doing the final stropping on leather. She came in said 'that looks like fun, let me do it.' I looked at my freshly honed razor, my only unblemished strop and could only respond one way, 'uh no.' She asked again with her cute voice, all I could see was my one unblemished strop cut to shreds and my new edge ruined. My answer sent her away in a small pout. I came out and offered to let her try with a different razor and an old strop, she said 'I lost interest now.' She did approve of my shave in the end.
I am going to keep marching with my straights. I may make this a Wedge month. If I can get a little motivation going, I am thinking of cleaning up a Rolls Razor for use on my gym mornings.

Thanks Doug! I am rounding up some TSD product for SDS in a bit. Chores almost done, time for some Barber Shoppe Shave Stick and a Ralf Aust 5/8! SDS is a good way for me to mix it up once a week.
Welcome aboard! The 30 Day rule is probably the best way to "get good at it, fast!" I've followed a bit of your question thread. My suggestion would be get a $15 Feather Popular TTO (I used one all last week) and some Astra SP, Voskhod, or GSB. The Feather is a copy of mid fifties Gillette SS geometry, with a long handle for ankles, backs of knees, etc. In general, all shaving is the same, basic guidelines and technique theory are applicable for any type of razor, from straight to disposable. The guys in this thread are an awesome bunch, and are eager to help you learn so you can enjoy the better way of shaving to the fullest. Thanks for hanging out with us!
