Post: cold water, Alum, witch hazel, Nivea sensitive After shave balm

Was tired tonight so I just went for a simple shave. Took my shower and went straight for my shave. I had warmed the brush and bloomed the soap before getting my shower. Rehydrated my face, and then rubbed in the bloom water, I think I need some kind of pre shave with this soap because it doesn't seem as slick as my Catie's Bubbles, or my other favorite soap that I got from Clint, It produced a decent lather but not as thick either. I just set my razor on 2 and went at it riding the cap with the First pass, of course WTG and got good reduction. Second pass riding the cap was XTG, again good reduction with no irritation, third pass riding the cap was ATG and got a little more reduction for a DFS with just the slightest irritation. Finished it off with my normal regiment of post shave, cleaned everything up and done. Maybe tomorrow I'll go for the cold water shave and see how it goes, I find my best shaves are the ones on the second day with a blade.

Tuesday is my birthday so make me happy and hurt yourself.. uhh I mean I am looking forward to your shave that day.

A very quick shave at the hotel, as we had to get back home as the kids have lots of activities this afternoon. Luckily, the J lends itself to a quick shave, as I can be a little more carefree with the technique and it won't punish me. I ended with a CCS, but that is good for this day. The wife and I had a very nice dinner last night, and we got a little relaxing in as well.

I haven't shaved since Wednesday and I paid for it today. I grabbed the Feather, first time in this razor. It did a great job reducing my beard down but I got several nicks, lost some blood and my neck is on fire. I'm hoping it was the growth as this blade is a favorite in my less aggressive Gillettes. In any case, the Route 66 performed beautifully, tons of M-Bomb cooled me off a our a.c. won't be installed until tomorrow. I needed the Thayers and the Nivea badly as well as the alum, finished with the Florida Water. I'm off to visit with friends and eat some beef. Have a great day folks!

May 30, 2016- Soap/Lather Focus

Razor: 48-49 Milord

No shave yesterday, so I finally got around to shaving two days worth of growth.

After reading a bit more, I decided to take a completely different tack with the Williams. As before, I'm using what had been a well-hydrated puck stored in a closed container, so it's a bit softer than if it had just been sitting out in a mug. The brush is the same as in previous attempts, but this time, instead of using a relatively dry brush and adding water gently, I went back to old habits and used a well-soaked brush that I barely shook out. The big difference was in loading and lather building time. With the dryer brush, I had been loading for around 30 seconds and then adding water during face lathering. Today, I hit the puck with the wet brush like it owed me money. Initially, I saw the expected foam of proto-lather. By around the minute mark, though, it had turned into a much nicer lather that started to overflow the sides of my small container. This was what I then applied to my face. The payoff was a much more stable lather than I had been getting from the Williams (i.e., little or no dissipation).

Not much else to say other than the results being a reasonable DFS.

Tomorrow is an early day with a customer meeting in MD in the afternoon, so I don't think there will be any shenanigans on my part to end the month.

Straight Mayhem
This month has been a great help to me. I went from hacking up my face in the fourth to daily use with no blood or irritation. If you had told me a month ago that I would go on a trip with my Feather AC in my travel kit, I would have laughed at you. I got one of my best shaves in a long time this morning with the AC. It's been a great weekend visiting my daughter and am on the long drive home.

Reminds me of my first attempt with a shavette. It was a Parker shavette and gave me scar that lasted for 4 months. It delayed my entry into straights for a year.

I hope it disappears quickly and congrats on getting good shaves from pain stick.

I'm inspired, I will pack my pain stick when I leave for Phuket tomorrow.

A big thank you to all who made the sacrifice. Living in South Korea provides a good reminder of what those sacrifices provided us. Just compare South and North Korea and you can understand just how 'bad' things can get without freedom. South Korea is a vibrant country with a high standard of living, education and the ability to travel the world. In the South there are no limits on what parents can dream for their children's future. In the North they dream for food and to not be sent to a concentration camp. The differences are stark, my heartfelt thank you to all who sacrificed and all who served.

Thanks. I did an earlier focus on the AC and got over confident when using it to clean up after one of my straight shaves. I relegated it to my travel kit and did the next three weeks with traditional straights. I'm now very happy with the shaves I'm getting with both straights and the AC. I can't say enough about how helpful these focus threads have been.

My focus in June will be injectors. I'm next in line for the West coast Bunny which will be my first ever injector shave. After my time with the Bunny is over I'm switching to the Schick type E that @Keithmax was generous enough to send me. I might squeeze in some SR shaves, also a first, on the weekends when I have time. Until the Bunny arrives I'm putting the best blades from this month head to head to determine what's the best for my R41. It was fun again this month and I'm looking forward to June.

No. The GSB is a Teflon blade, the Blue is a Platinum. Never the twain shall meet. At one point the GSB was said to be discontinued as well, but that turned out to be a false rumor.
