@Keithmax you almost enabled me with the cookies. I will give in soon enough, but I have to get enough shaves with the DEs I'm acquiring to show my wife a solid return on investment, plus I need to :duel: for more than a corner of the bathroom for a proper den. For now I will lurk and note experiences of the gorgeous straights I see on the dark side.

Actually Gen. Benjamin Butler, military governor of New Orleans, after its capture during the civil war, had this inscribed on the base of the statue of Andrew Jackson.

Spend sixty days mastering a Schick G. Then, straights will be easier than you ever thought they could be! You can do it!

I second this line of thought.

You could watch SR vids, practice skin stretching with your DE shaves. It'll make things easy later. Start learning now!

I do skin stretches now, but I need to work on holding and using the razor in my left hand

Go for it. I had the same fears and have grown to like straights a lot. Wounds heal

And the citizens of N.O. responded to "Beast" Butler's efforts as Military Governor by commissioning a series of chamberpots emblazoned with his likeness :D.

Thank You Shelby Foote for that tidbit.

Yes, his mistake was turning the women against him by writing an order stating any woman who insulted a Union soldier was to be treated like a woman of the town, plying her avocation.

    These guys are such enablers!

They convinced me on a practical dare to us an SR. Well, I took the plunge and never regretted it! Note that I only use straight razors when I don't have to work, twice a week, due to time constraints. The learning curve is steep and your first dozen or so shaves will be lousy, but they will be fun. You will likely get a nasty gash or two as you get up to speed, but no hospital visits will be required. It gets better after that. I can get a DFS now in 20 minutes with an SR and I have about 45 shaves behind me.

Yes, it's another expenditure as you will need a strop and the razor will need to be honed from time to time. As was said in an earlier post, experience is forever!

Everyone here will be more than happy to guide you along if you take the plunge.

Yesterday's shave was a Henry Sears & Son Queen Razor. Does anyone know where these razors were made? I know some of the Early Sears razors were made by George Korn, and I am trying to figure out if this is one of those. image.jpeg
