Mitchell's wool fat

Last week I had the opportunity to pick up a puck of "the fat". In a word it's awesome. The scent is a nice very mild clean scent with no significant smell. It lathers very easily and the lather is soft and slick. Exactly what you would expect from a premium soap. I found I could shower and shave with my RazoRock synthetic badger and any combination of blades and needed no significant prep or any aftershave. The soap is quite remarkable. It could quickly become the go to soap for daily shaving. Yea, it's that good. Down side... Sorry, I got nothing. Maybe, I wish it came in a 1kh block like cella.

The single puck will last quite a while. MWF is a favorite of mine, and I'll get another puck after NB '16.

I love MWF and use it every Friday. I grated the refill puck into a plastic container with a lid. I'll bloom the soap while showering and then load like there's no tomorrow. Great lather, terrific performance.

I'm starting to think I'm the only one in the world that considers MWF so-so.

I'm still a Fat Virgin. One day I'll rustle up some E-Bucks and order a puck.
@mrchick you are not so impressed, tell me of a soap you like better that I might have a comparison and understand you lack of enthusiasm.

I'm a huge fan of Route 66. I get better lather and slickness with their soaps. Plus I'm a big fan of some of their scents, such as Sweeney Todd.

We then, that's settled! I need to try both MWF and Route66.
    Thank you Sir. ;)

I wasn't enamored with MWF at first and in fact I stopped using it for lengthy stretch. It wasn't until I saw a forum thread on achieving the perfect balance of water& whisking, combined with a puck soak that I unlocked the MWF performance everyone had been raving about but one that had eluded me.

You'll find Route 66 a top shelf performer as well and considerably more compliant than MWF can be for some

I've read those threads and can get a very nice looking lather. It's just the performance that I find a distant second to Route 66. How do they compare for you?

I use the lotion on occassion. Funny, I didn't even know they made a soap.

Both can produce excellent, slick lather but MWF requires a good deal more effort to match the Route 66 -which yields the desired results far easier in a variety of interesting scents. I do enjoy the simple clean scent of Mitchell's, but having the variety of scents in which Route 66 comes is tough to beat!

No, I'm with you. I like the scent, and I can make beautiful lather with lots of cushion, but the slickness is just not that great for me. It's post shave leaves me a little dry as well. Maybe my water, maybe my body chemistry. It's a decent soap, but I find WSP, Soap Commander and others much better in performance.

Any chance you could share your knowledge real quick? I too only find MWF so-so at the moment. I can get a decent lather with it, but it's not the thick, creamy, slick kind I get from soaps like B&M, Stirling, Proraso, Synergy, etc. And even with a decent lather; it doesn't provide as good a shave as I'd like. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong, and I REALLY want to be a fan of MWF; so any help would be very much appreciated. =)

If you do an online search on 'Mitchells wool fat problem' you'll get a number of hits with various methods on solving the MWF. YouTube has a few vids as well. That being said, I found the answer to be rather simple:
One: soak the puck well. Overnight or at the very least 10-15 minutes before your shave. This was the biggest 'a-ha!' moment for me.
Two: Use a damp boar brush. Not essential, but I find boars's stiffness to aid with pucks that can be harder to lather.
Three: Lather vigorously, adding less water then you think you'd need, as the lather develops. You don't want 'foamy', you are looking for a creamier consistency.
    It does take some practice.

I like MWF but it tends to give me spots. Seriously, it happens nearly every time I use it. It's definitely the soap, as this doesn't happen with any other soap I use. I wonder if it is something to do with the lanolin.

I think the best ever MWF advice from this forum, I'm sorry I can't remember who's advice, was to soak the new puck for 24 hours before use. It fills to the size of the dish and you'll never have trouble getting good lather.
