Well, I went back and compared my Rubie's to the post. It appears they are genuine. This is the first "bad" Gillette branded blade that I've used .

Counterfeit Rubie's would seem to be a bit of a waste of effort in my book. They're bad enough already, and I really don't know that there is a very large market for them. I'll look again when I get home tonight but I know I read somewhere that Rubie was the brand Gillette used for all of their "seconds" that didn't quite make muster for other brands. That was back in the day, but maybe they're doing the same thing. I'll document that when I dig it out later.

Well it's back to work. Another Monday/Wednesday kind of day. Shave is in, report later this evening as it's time to head out into the wild wild world of sales. Hope you all have a great day!

I'm using this month to try out the razors that I bought when doing my Straight Focus last month. Today is Big Fellow day and I like it. I'm a fan of the old open comb razors and got a very nice two pass shave. It might have even been a better shave had I been using a soap that supplied some lubrication. Aargh!

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: GEM Stainless
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
    Lather: Williams Mug Soap
Post: Witch hazel splash, Mennen Skin Bracer, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Pretty good shave today with the GEM Featherweight and Williams Mug Soap. A little more burn from the Skin Bracer today than yesterday. But I'm pretty smooth with one pass and touch-up. The Williams performed pretty well again today.

I hope you all have a great day!

Which Gillette 7 O'clock green there are 2 different ones, there are the super sharp, and the super stainless. I use the super stainless and get great shaves out of them.

Focusing on my Schick Type L (L1 and L7) this month.

    Cool shower, cold water shave.
    Razor: 1965-80 Schick Type L7
    Blade: Schick (Dutch) (2)
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Island Man, M-bombed
    Witch Hazel
    AS: Stirling Island Man

    One-day growth, one-pass shave - ATG
Near perfect shave again with this combo with just one pass! Second shave with the Dutch blade (Dog Danglies) and I really like this combo - racing around curves with these sporty pinstripes is breath-taking. (But don't attempt this while ATG - know your limits!)

As you can see by the photo, this was an NOS purchase. I was searching to try to find the elusive Dog Danglies, as I had first experienced a great shave from them as a PIF from @Hodge last November-ish.

Soon after, I stumbled upon an auction for the NOS package in the photo. Seems the Type L "Championship Edition" may have been a promotion for the 1976 Olympics.

Anyway...since the Dutch blades were part of the package (razor and blades made in Holland) I decided to purchase three. I use one and sent one to my son. The third one (pictured) will be my ‘in-case-of-fire’ solution if I run out of these blades and find myself desperate enough to break into the package. Seems it may be necessary some day as I can’t seem to find any of these blades at auction, which seems odd. (I’m sure it’s not like anyone would hoard these and keep others from enjoying them…or would they…):signs136:

    Cheers!

there are many out there and they are inexpensive.

If you want to purchase, try a Schick Type G or L to begin with because if you have even just a little sense of shaving technique (decent angle which doesn't have to be perfect, and light pressure) you probably won't stand a chance of having a bad shave. On the other hand, if you've really worked at technique, you will possibly have more BBS shaves than you're used to.

    IMHO and YMMV

Lastly - Anyone on this thread interested in taking the plunge - I will put a Schick L1 into a pass-around for anyone to try...with a new blade key of 7 blades.
(each blade should last 3 - 5 shaves)

    PM me if interested.

    June 9 Focus shave

After the pain stick failures and less than stellar come back I thought I lost my mojo. Fortunately today I found in the SMN lather using a Takehana Feon 172. The lather was perfect, wet and slick, the razor was very smooth and sharp. Four passes and not even a drop of red. Apply alum, zero reaction, finished BBS. Happy to have my mojo back.

    Jolly Good June!

    June 8

    Razor - Feather SS
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Tabac
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, The Veg

Well the day finally ended. Nothing like having a customer with a problem roll up just as you're logging off of the computer for the day. Added about a half hour to the day but they think I'm totally amazing and can't believe how easy it was to solve their problem. Guess I'm just a really, really, really nice guy. (Got a few ex-wives who would rebut that, but I digress).

Shave this morning was good. Still working on getting the Feather SS back under control. I'm not really sure if it's the grip difference or the lip on the blade holder that is creating a bit of a challenge. Maybe a bit of both. No major issues, just extra effort to attain and hold the correct angle, and angle is everything with this beast. I got a fantastic Tabac lather with the BoS as usual and had it a little extra wet to add a bit of extra slickness. Wound up with a nice DFS with two passes and quite a bit of cleanup on the neck. Alum verified I spent a lot of time there. Ouch! But, no blood, so on went the Veg (ouch again) and off to work I went.

I feel like it will come back under control within the next shave or two. My plan is to move to a TSR next week but I may delay a day or two and try the Greager again to see if I can figure out what is really puzzling me about these two.

Hope you all had a good hump day! And for me, I'm glad Monday is OVER!! The temperature here is going UP the next few days so I'll be looking out for these guys!

Taking a break from my Korn Razor focus, because I just got six freshly honed razors in today. Might not be back to my Korn focus this month. This razor was one I had purchased as shave ready, and not been happy with the honing. I contacted the gentleman who honed it, and he offered to touch it up with his new stones for free. I figured why just send one, I have this other one that needs it too. Then when they got there, he asked if I like American razors. That was a stupid question, so I bought four more razors from him.

Also using my new shave bowl that my bride got me for our 8th anniversary. 8th is pottery, so she actually got me something shave related. Soap is Beaver Woodwright. My first time using this soap. I used one of his aftershaves on Monday’s shave, and enjoyed it. The scent is very complex, this is from the website: “Barnacle Bob is a rainy, salty mist of green notes made up of basil, green leaf and ozone notes with added notes of rose and jasmine bringing out the touch of violet in the blend for sweetness. I added bottom notes of sandalwood and tonka to round out the earthy, coast like feel with a kick of lime, just right for you salty sea dogs.” I got a clean scent, a little bit of green and sweet. Good stuff. The post shave feel is awesome, but it is a pretty soft soap.

Razor has a much better edge on it now. Not pulling and tugging like the last time I used it. It was finished on a J-Nat, but I have no idea which one. Did two passes and some touch up for a DFS plus shave, with minor irritation and quiet alum. Pretty happy with the razor now. Aftershave smells and feels great, has some burn and a low level of menthol. Had some burning for about 20 minutes on the spots where I did three passes. Not sure if it was the alcohol or if my skin is reacting to the citrus. I really hope it is alcohol, because I like this stuff.
