Injector & SE Party !!!

The handle is a pleasant surprise. I didn't think I'd like it but it is comfortable in the hand and despite the smooth finish it is not slippery. That being said, I'll definitely be experimenting with different handles, starting today.

I'm trying to avoid forming conclusions before I get a few more shaves in, but my initial impression is that the SE1 is more nimble than the Mongoose (it's a full ounce lighter and the rounded cap is much more compact) and much smoother and more forgiving than the Cobra Classic (I don't have a KC).

If razors were vehicles the Mongoose would be an SUV, the Cobra Classic would be a high performance sports car, and the SE1 would be a luxury sport sedan.

Today was shave #4 with the ATT SE1 and I can no longer resist trying a different handle. The Maggard Razors MR1 handle is 11/32" shorter than the original, slightly lighter (.2 oz) and of course deeply knurled. I like shorter handles (probably due to my experience with vintage SE's) and the deep knurling felt quite secure in the hand. While it doesn't affect the shave, I really like the way this handle looks on the razor - it looks like it was made for it.

The shave? It was an extremely close near-perfect BBS with no irritation or weepers - the type of shave I'm beginning to take for granted from this razor.

Day two with my "one pass and go" trial was another success. It does feel like a shame to be washing all the lather down the drain though..... I'm pretty much convinced this is my favorite Schick razor.

I feel your "pain" though. I've gotten so many 1-pass shaves with various injectors that I'm almost giddy!

(Note to self: don't load your brush so much when you wake in the morning and find that there's little stubble on your face. You can always reload if you have to make a second pass!)

 

I've been looking at that strop. Please keep us updated on how you like it.

 

Tonight I was preparing for a shave off between my I2 and G8....When for no reason, I opened the medicine cabinet, took out my new Damaskeene, dropped the shim out and replaced the blade...
A friend of mine "across the street" was asking about 'shim vs no shim' with various SE razors....

Long story short...This Damaskeen with whatever I put in it shaves amazing....With the shim it was amazing....tonights shave with just a new GEM stainless in there.....amazing...Feels totally mild, but is leaving BBS skin in each strokes wake.....This 'Dammy' is slam stealing my heart....

 

Dude......the one elusive injector I've yet to try. The E1 hit the favorite Schick injector razor mark for me. I like the BV3 injector also but don't know if and when it will me available.

 

Will do. I plan to refresh one of my blades using the .5 micron diamond spray on the felt pad. I'll continue to refresh the other using the film. I can say the handle has a very comfortable grip and I get a nice steady surface for stropping.

 

So that's it? A blurry picture and no comment on how it (the single edge) shaved?

My apologies for not commenting. I own a hydromatic and Schick l injector. Both were unfortunately too mild for my coarse beard and sensitive neck. Thankfully the supply division single edge is heavy and aggressive enough to mow through my copper like stubble.

 

Did you get all three plates? Which one are you using?

 

I have just the classic. I thought I would just go for the one. I knew if it didn't work I would need the aggressive one. With the Canadian dollar being crap and taking school this year I did not want too waste money.

 

Tonight 2nd shave British 1912
Tonight I tried s new Gem carbon steel blade. I kept all the other variables the same.

So with 2 days growth I went at it. I had another nice slick lather. Started my first pass and instantly noticed how really smooth the new blade was. Mind you I thought my stropping blade was smooth. It had 5 or 6 shaves on it already. I finished my first pass and was pretty stunned as to how much this razor removed on the first pass. As good as any shave period.

Lathered up for a second pass. The results were the same fantastic reduction. I could have stopped here with a few touchups and been really stoked about this shave. But I had to do a third pass as i did with the stropper.

Third pass went smooth as silk. Finished with a BBS. No irritation and no need for touchups.

The British 1912 to me is as an efficient razor as they come. It is also my smoothest SE I own.

As for blades on this, the jury is still out. I need to wait for Saturday. I will load a new stropping blade to see how it compares.

Anyhow British 1912's are the Bee's Knee's for sure.

Whatever vision Stan had when he designed the SE1, this was certainly not in it. The short heavy MR3 Bulldog handle is the complete opposite of the elegant slender graceful Bamboo handle that comes with the SE1 - which doesn't keep it from working really well. It definitely feels heavy in the hand (more "Mongoose-like," if you will) but smoothly mows down whiskers with aplomb.

I enjoyed another close super-smooth irritation-free shave.

Just to take away from the s.o.t.d feel of this thread, does anyone here know much about the 1912 in the back of this shot? It's a British made version but I've never come across one with this type of plastic handle before. It's gem branded and identical head to my ornate handle.
Just as an observation, the American version In front has a slightly shorter handle and is also shorter where the handle attaches (where the gem logo is). I can only assume it to be a travel version? As it came in a fairly compact tin case.

That is very interesting. Being a British made Gem. That could make it one for export to Australia. I have not a clue about the plastic handle.

I will be anxiously awaiting some real answers on this one.

By the way cool razors. How do you like the shaves with them?
