Good morning friends. Such a wonderful three pass shave today with the N1. This JabonMan SS is so lovely, it smells like lime incense and has a really nice freeze to it while providing exceptional performance. I only wish this soap maker was more accessible. Dolphin smooth and refreshed, ready to face the world confidently. Have a great day friends.

It's a great razor and you'll get even better shaves with it after you use it a few more times.

Well, no pics, but I did use my Schick injector G model this morning and got a great shave! Why did they ever stop making these things? If this were back in the day, these injectors might very well be the only razors I would use!

    All aboard!

So, I've used the E and the G models. The G is slightly milder, but not that much so. I really like both models.

How are the adjustables? Mild to wild?

Yup! Mild to wild is right, it's all up to you. I've only ever shaved with my M type Adj. on the highest setting which I believe is an 8. I prefer efficiency for a smooth irritation free shave and it gets it done with flying colors. I now have a Pal Adj. on the way and I'm very excited to try it out. Roby, I'll have to look into an M type adjustable now.

Soooo, I've been wet shaving for more than a year, started with vintage Gillettes (Ball End Tech, SuperSpeed, Slim, Black Beauty). About 9 months ago, I dipped my foot into the straight razor waters, and have been hoooked (last count was 11 SR's). I love vintage razors, enjoy the history of them, love the idea that I'm shaving with something that's 50, 75, 100, 150 years old. Decided out of nowhere to look into SE shaving, and won a Damaskeene yesterday on eBay Gem Damaskeene[IMG]. Got what I think is a good deal. The seller didn't list it as a Damaskeene, and there's some active rust on the handle (see the pics on the page). I ordered an SE sampler from Tryablade, so I'm stoked to try my first SE shave (head and face). my question is this: how would y'all recommend removing the rust on the handle? I've cleaned up a few SR's using W/D sandpaper, steel wool, or a utility knife blade, and I know that a combination of those 3 tends to work pretty well. Would I be doing the same thing with the Damaskeene handle? I only wonder because of the cylindrical shape as opposed to the flat (in comparison) shape of a straight razor blade.

Just clean it up as normal. Most likely it will not come off completely.

Also you will want to check out @Billyfergie shim for modern blades for these old type razors. It helps with the shave.

You will really like the shave you get.

First shave with the Type A and I got a very nice shave. A couple of weepers on the neck, where I did a third pass, but a very nice shave over all.

Thanks. Are shims needed for vintage SE's? I've never used one with my DE's, but I did read somewhere that modern SE blades are thinner than the older blades. Is it worth finding vintage SE blades and stropping them?

It is not necessary at all. Just ann
Other way to change how it shaves. I personally like the old blades (stropping type) in the old SE's. They make for a very smooth shave. Try the new style first.

    Have Fun

See if this link works. It tells how to make the shim. http://theshavingroom.co.uk/community/index.php?threads/the-fergiebilly-shim.32513/

Just making sure, was afraid I'd missed something. I'll definitely be trying the new blades first, to see how they work, but I have been looking around for some vintage blades as well. I'm a bit confused about how to strop them, though. I've read that, if you happen to have a stropping handle, that's the best way. Is there another way? I'm just guessing that palm stropping won't work on those

To do it correctly you will need a stropper made for SE blades. [IMG][IMG]
    Here are 2 examples.

I believe the handle of the Gem Damaskeene razors are made of steel that is then plated with chrome. Once the plating wears, the steel underneath begins to rust. The heads on those are brass with plating over it. So, even with any wear on the plating, the head will not rust.

Clean up the handle and head with dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush and you're good to go. If there is rust on the handle, don't worry about it. The shave will still be fantastic! They're nice razors.
