100,000,000 is nearly a third of the country. That might not be far off if you count the elderly/retired and kids under working age but definitely seems high if you're only counting those in the normal working age range. I don't mean to say there aren't plenty of people out of work of course. There are. But I think the truth is something less than that and more than the official numbers which are always low. @Omaney I like your style. Seems like a pretty reasonable way to deal with the problem. You could go through the documentation and firing hassle but there's no point to that if the guy does a good job and this is their one shortcoming. Most guys will eventually decide to shave before they go to work if they know they'll be forced to later and it'll hurt more then. After spending most of my life in the military where daily shaves are required for mostly arbitrary reasons, I'm surprised we didn't have more young guys who showed up in the morning without shaving. That was actually a very rare occurrence, at least in my experience. I'm not really sure why that is but my guess is the couple months of basic training where you have 3 minutes to shave and only one sink for every 3 or 4 men just gets you in the habit of doing it no matter how much it sucks. Or maybe it's just that anyone who won't adapt to that gets kicked out. Most companies don't get to put new hires through 2 or 3 months of heavy duty indoctrination where you can weed out anyone who doesn't want to conform.
Dont dispose of the dispoable. If they have to shave offer the nasty loaners or go home with a write up. Bet they would get their personal gear together then. But as long as you cater them new shave equipment, why would they change. Throw that junk in a box, and say this is what's offered or use your own.
all this reminds me of the scene in The Rockford Files where "Dennis"(Rockford's LAPD friend)was sitting at his desk and thought he had some time to do a quick electric shave...the second he turned on the power of the razor, his phone rang, so he angrily shut it(the razor)off.
I know you're joking but definitely never do that. It's a health hazard and if someone caught a blood-borne disease that was with them for life you'd be supporting them for the rest of it.
Yes, i was joking. Inspired by the tv Comercial about the nasty razor. Actually, my stance is, show up right or go home. If customers dont get served, reapropreate them to someone else.
It sounds like cartridge razors and canned goo give him a terrible shave. That might be why he avoids shaving. Why not give him a printout of Dr. Shave's Book of Shaving with "www.theshaveden.com" written on the printout? Then later ask him if he is interested in getting great shaves with traditional wetshaving. Who knows, it might make their lives and your job a lot easier.
Apparently your "requirement" isn't a requirement since you're buying razors for them. I'm with those who recommend a hard stance. My workplace has PPE requirements as well and they serve an important purpose. And it also doesn't matter what age demographic the employee belongs to. Rules are rules. First offense, send them home and dock their pay. My dad used to say that you don't have to punish everyone. Usually you just have to punish one and leave the body where everyone else can see it. If you decide to keep buying razors for them I'd recommend charging them at least ten dollars for them. Maybe that could be your option. Pay ten bucks for a disposable or have your pay docked for the time it takes you to go home, shave, and return. I'm going to report for work this morning and I'll be utilizing my PPE without compromise because an energized circuit does what it does. It doesn't care how old I am, how much experience I have, or how many times I remembered my PPE. I only have to forget to wear it one time.
In the interest of good sport. I shaved with a BIC disposable Saturday morning. It was certainly not the worst shave I've experienced. 6 out of 10. Of course I prepped.
I was trying to hit my Father-In-law up a while back to see if he still had any of his old DE razors. (Apparently, he doesn't.) It turns out that his current shave is a BIC Sensitive disposable and Barbasol original. To each his own...
The millennials in my office often go unshaven and push the boundary of business casual dress. I certainly couldn't have gotten away with that 15 years ago (nor would I have wanted to). “Your revolution is over, Mr. Lebowski. Condolences. The bums lost!”
