Its not like I'm in shortage of razors... considering I have 8 of them of the following: 1. Razorock Wunderbar 2. Rockwell 6s 3. Fatip Grande Gold 4. Fatip Gentile Black 5. Pearl OC TTO 6. Pearl CC TTO 7. Maggard V3a with Scotch and Stove Chubby matte handle 8. GEM OC, liking this one so far and been trough 4-5 shaves on the GEM Blue blade and I think the blade is sort of losing its sharpness. - Preordered the Rockwell Model T - Thinking of getting on the Wolfman list After having all these razors I do wondered about the Gillette adjustable ones, but being a cheapo and getting one that's used and abused, plating wrecked, need of replating , even if I required one that is really cheap at maybe $25-$30 shipped I would still need replating which would of bring thee razor cost from 100-230 depending on which plating you go with.... So every time I see very good Gillette Adjustable in very good condition or NOS they go from 120-4000 bucks... yea that wasn't going to happen. Saw one couple of days a go on ebay, don't have the full packaging but it does look like new, no dents, no dings, well preserved plating, numbers have fresh black color and seller has 100% on his reviews and offers returns. So I bid on it and I got it for like $56, hope it shaves as good as it looks and hope it don't have any manufacture issues. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-GILLETTE-SAFETY-RAZOR-WITH-CASE-I-2-NEVER-USED-NO-RESERVE-1960s-/182185145665?nma=true&si=YdFZp8fk9WvZ3oA8LNJK9PbtMTM%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Nice looking Slim. I think you'll enjoy the shave it gives. I have several and all shave well, in fact all of the Gillette adjustable's(Fat boy, Slim & Super Adjustable) shave well. I'm not up on the prices anymore but $56 doesn't sound bad. Good score.
Small town antique shopping has netted me three FatBoys & a Slim. I did test shave and evaluate each, kept the one very best Fatboy. My average cost per razor was just over ten bucks each. There are nice examples out there for sale by folks who don't use ebay as a price guide. My secret? Speak up, ask the sales clerk, leave your name and number if they keep a WTB list.
this will be only Gillette purchase I will make, just wanted to have one in excellent condition. Considering majority of the Gillette razors are mild the adjustable will do just fine for me and most likely I will shave with it on #9
I also had a few without cases that I've been selling for about $30 that look practically new . lol oh you will like it. Since you like aggressive try above 7 setting. Have fun
Really nice looking Slim for a good price with case. Postage to the UK is the killer for us overseas members - that and import duty, if applicable. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy using mine. Regards, Chris
Very nice Slim, you'll enjoy shaving with it. Bought my first Gillette Slim new back in the '60s, Still shave it. The great thing about most vintage is that they last a lifetime.
Considering its NOS and me having other razors in rotation this one will outlast me 5 life times.... just got it for the sake of having one till I wait for the Rockwell model T to come out for the sake of comparing them. Was thinking of getting Fatboy that's nos but those go $300+ and since the head design is the same should shave same as the slim, only difference I see between them is that the Fatboy has thicker and shorter handle but they both look equally appealing to me
The Fatboy has a higher "domed" head than the Slim, which some people insist makes shaving under the nose awkward. The shave is similar though. The Fatboy might feel just a bit more aggressive due to the head heavy weight distribution, compared to the Slim. If you have one, you don't really need the other, unless you suddenly start collecting Gillette razors.
+1 Also, Garage/Lawn sales and Thrift Shops have great deals for razors. I have not spent more than $12 on a Vintage Razor, I have 28 including 2 each of Fatboy, Slim and BB.
Do you ship to the UK? We don't get that availability, sadly, and shipping costs for overpriced ebay items from the US is crippling (plus import duty, where applicable). Regards, Chris
You WTB a Gillette adjustable DE? I'll keep my eyes open! I'm sure we could find something to trade. I live in a small metro area. Ever seen the Andy Griffith show? Just a little bigger and slowly sipping into the 21st century. Deal can be had.
