So I've heard, if I do it, will probably be only a 2 pass shave with a Personna Lab Blue for tomorrows 4th of July shave. But maybe wait till Tuesday and go with a milder blade. I was kind of shocked they got me this razor they were off for a weekend for them selves for there Anniversary.
Great shave today. Not much to say really. Went back to the Kai blade today and was reminded how much I love them.
SOTN 7/3/16 Razor: Robeson Shuredge Strop: Drygulch Leatherworks Horsehide/ Linen Soap: The Shave Den Iced Yin Yang Brush: Handmade aluminum handle, 28 mm Ubersoft II synthetic knot Post: Cold water, alum, Thayers' Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Yon Yang My soap rotation doesn't line up with Shave Den Sunday too often, so I wanted to get this in today. I won't be shaving tomorrow, so I will have plenty of whiskers for the Popsicle stick challenge, but I also wanted to do an all American shave for the fourth. I am also trying out another razor loaned by @Norcalnewb, this one a Robeson Shuredge, made in Rochester, NY. Robeson was run by a member of the Case family, and they are said to shave similar to other American razors from the area. It's a brand I have wanted to try. Have changed my shave pattern a little. Did a N/S pass, an XTG on my chin only, then a S/N pass everywhere, then an XTG pass on my neck only. This razor has a good edge, but didn't seem as smooth as I was hoping for. Can't argue with the results though, BBS, with some irritation on the neck but no blood. Jim, who honed this one? TSD soap is awesome to use. This one is mentholated, which I probably won't order again. The alum had some burn on the neck, but the iced splash calmed it down. If I remember what I ordered correctly, the splash has double menthol. Over all, great shave, and now I want a Robeson razor.
Just checked the poll results after a few days. Seriously?! More have chosen the Drygulch Menthol method for cooling off than eating ice cream and cookies? In fact NOBODY eats ice cream and cookies yet five poor souls prefer the low menthol rub? We are a sick, sick bunch aren't we.
Day detox, Day 2 shavette focus, day 2 Dovo shavette with Fromm hair shaper blade. Detox, I don't want to talk about it. The Fromm blades are very sharp and remind me of Feather Pros. This razor is very light, I really don't like light razors. The bathroom at the hotel is very dark and it is hard to see while I shave. Come to think of it too light a razor loaded with a very sharp blade while shaving in the dark.... this would have been perfect for MAYhem. One operator error and gave my self a good cut. Other than that 3 passes, DFS with surprising very low irritation. Irritation A Closeness B+ Smoothness A- Sharpness A+
Happy 4th everyone!!! Cloudy and cool in the Lou this morning but the rain is moving away. I'll be spending my day hopefully making lots of money!! While today is a major holiday, certainly, it may have to give way to the next big thing......Cinco de Julio!!! And, in honor of that great day tomorrow, I did not shave today to provide more beard for the popsicle razor to deal with. Hope you have a great day and I'll be checking in and out and back this evening. Make it a fun and safe holiday!!
I bought the razor as Shave Ready, along with the J Wiss I sent you. The J Wiss was very smooth but this one was not quite so. It is sharp, just not as smooth.
July Focus Day 4 -- Independence Day Edition: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Glacial Wintergreen SS Shaheen & Brothers Razor Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill AS I had just a great shave this morning with the Glacial Wintergreen and Shaheen razor. It was nice and cold, and the razor was smooth. I did a full two passes, and just missed a BBS as I did not get my chin fully there. I had a screaming baby girl in the bathroom with me as I shaved, so honestly, I did a good job to maintain enough focus to keep from cutting myself. I topped everything off with a healthy splash of some Glacial Lemon Chill, just to get that final face freezing effect on this warm SE Texas morning. My dad and I are smoking some boneless beef ribs right now, so it is promising to be a great day. This shave got it started in the right direction. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Independence Day!
So tomorrow is popsicle Tuesday and I have no popsicles or anything to superglue a blade to... so I have two options (courtesy of SWMBO).... see what I can drunkenly rig for tomorrow or I have to shave in a dress or something girly for her amusement (yes there will be pictures regardless)... tomorrow/tonight if I shave after midnight should be interesting so keep an eye out.
Likely story. Get thee to 7-11, they sell individual Popsicles. Make it a date night. Don't fight reality.
To the 30DC: Thanks for being a part of all this! I hope each and every one if you has a great Independence Day! I live in Kansas, and other than Brisket, it's impossible to get beef for BBQ. I miss beef ribs over a misquite fire.
This is my 4th of July American shave as far as I could and I know. SOTD 7/4/16 Pre: Shower Razor: Gillette Fatboy (2) Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1) Brush: TGN Finest in olivewood handle (made by Clint64) Soap: WSP Formula T Barbershop Soap Post: cold water rinse, Alum, The Veg Tonight I got a little better than DFS with a 3 pass shave. I'm ok with it tonight because I was wanting to stay with american products as much as possible tonight. I'm counting the brush as american made because Clint64 made it although he used a badger knot. I didn't expect to get near BBS or BBS tonight because I skipped last nights shave and was unable to do my normal preshave tonight. Nivea products I didn't think were made in america, in fact I think there German or something. First pass was WTG and was pretty good, the Personna lab blue blades are pretty sharp as I dialed it back to 2. I usually start on 1 or 2 when trying a new kind of blade. Second pass XTG saw even better reduction and was starting to think despite 2 days of growth I might get near BBS. Third pass I decided to go somewhere in between ATG and XTG and I don't know if that was folly or a blessing because I got 3 weepers. I don't know exactly what would have happened if I had just gone ATG, but anyway I ended up with at least a little better than DFS tonight and called it quits. I reached for the alum and wiped it across my face, I was BBS on my cheeks but a little better that DFS on my neck. I still saw one little weeper trying to show a little red so I applied my styptic and it stopped, surprising though no burn. I then applied my VEG and that was that. Note to self, do not skip a shave the night before a minimal shave! That's all the news that is news for this 4th of July shave, thanks to any that joined me for this all american shave today!
Pork ribs are readily available here in the Lou. Oh, wait, you said beef. Yeah, we don't eat beef ribs around here. But do have a lot of brisket as well!
