Thanks! I'm really liking the open comb plate. The aggresiveness is the same as the traditional but there's something smoother about it. Would you guys agree? What is it about open combs you like?

To me they feel more efficient, perhaps because you dont have a buildup of whiskers and soap between the blade and the guard. I don't know, just more comfortable.

I agree with you both. I think with OC's the residual soap left behind that slips through the comb makes for more comfortable subsequent strokes. :)

In general I prefer open comb razors. They seem to be more efficient for a given level of aggression. For example, I felt the ATT R2 gave me better shaves the the R1.

    Timeless OC with Hempel Ti
    Feather (3)

Finished my third shave with the Timeless OC razor. I know it is still early but I will say that this razor is giving my Wolfman serious competition for my top DE razor spot. Even though it has a very large blade gap, I have found the Timeless forgiving to use while being exceptionally efficient.

I finally got this antique market 1920's cleaned up last night. With the exception of a slightly bent outside tooth, this thing is very good condition for its age. She shines better than I thought she would.

This morning I took her out for a spin.

This was my first outing with an open comb razor and WOW. On the first pass around the chin area she was a little overly aggressive until I remembered my training. Ride the cap! I noticed the cap height on this razor was not as high as what I have been shaving with so there was an angle adjustment and a shave experience that was different than a closed comb. Aggressive, efficient, painless. I did the customary 3 pass shave. Touch-up was not needed as pass 3 took care of everything left behind. No nick, no cuts, no blood. Home run!

I have what I think is the best and smoothest shave of my adult life. The true test came with an alum rub and the only place that hinted there was irritation was my chin.

I will use this razor again, but due to its age, I don't want to ride her to hard. I am now off to research more new and used open combs. I am hopeful that Andrew is done depleting the market of these vintage open combs.

Welcome to the wonderful world of open combs! The ones that I'm after now are a bit more on the scarce side. But I highly recommend the Gillette New, both Long and Short Comb. They are fantastic shavers and pretty easy to find any not very expensive. And if you can manage to get your hands on Cooper MonoBilt snatch that bad boy up right away. Seriously my #1 razor.

I just received this razor yesterday. It was damaged from a previous owner dropping it I think. So I spent three or four hours carefully bending it back into shape. I managed to shave with it yesterday, but it still needed much more work. I finished it today. I'll probably try it out again tomorrow. I am waiting for my American Rocket to be delivered today, and that is what I plan to shave with today, for my birthday shave. Have a great day, everyone!

    Le Coq Open Comb
    Wilkinson Sword Classic(4)
    Stirling 24mm synthetic
    Stirling Executive Man

Good afternoon friends. I had my first shave with the Le Coq razor this morning and I've got to tell you this this the most aggressive razor that I have ever used. I'm not really sure what function the comb has because if there was ever a time that the comb was touching your face the blade would be at such an angle that all it would be doing was scraping your skin off. That being said I had to really focus on riding the cap and not letting the angle slip. I'm fairly certain this was equal to a DEvette shave. I'm very thankful that I had the super slick Stirling lather there protecting my skin. After 3 passes I was BBS and even 6 hours later still just as smooth. The alum was a little warm in a couple of spots but over ask a very excellent shave. I don't think this razor will come up too often in rotation because it requires you to really pay attention. And if so maybe not use a blade that's as sharp as the Wilkinson.

Have a great day my friends!

This razor sounds like a good candidate to try different types of blades and It would be interesting to see if a GSB or Personna fare better than the Wilkinson.

Don't get me wrong it was a great shave. But if I had messed up with the Wilkinson it wouldn't have forgiven me. I think it will need a blade that is a little more forgiving.
