Darn you Chris, now I have another aftershave to hunt down. I am looking for a nice barbershop scent. ENABLER!!!
Day 7 of detox and day 3 for the Feather DX Against my better judgement I went with the QCS Vostok, going for the slickness while numbing my face, a risk proposition for Feather DX shave. I almost made it without blood but got one nick. Just missed the baby but this was the best shave yet with the Feather. Maybe because the blade was on its third shave. Irritation A Closeness A- Smoothness A- Sharpness A+ Wat Chalong, the largest Buddhist temple in Phuket.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. My aunt's stroke has affected her breathing but things are at least stable. Again thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.
July 2016 Blade Focus July 8 Razor: Lord L6 Blade: Dorco 300 Brush: VDH Boar Soap: Stirling MITA Post: Cold water rinse, Alum block I brought my razor with me on the trip along with the Dorco blade to use. I did not like this blade at all the first go round when I tried it and after one use I remembered exactly why. The blade is not sharp and not smooth for me. With my rough thick coarse beard it pulls as much as it cuts. Ended last night with a barely DFS shave and a little irritation, OK a lot of irritation. Going to give the blade one not chance but then will be calling it quits with Dorco unless there is dramatic improvement. Below is another one of my birthday gifts.
In the Good Old Shavertime!! July 9 Razor - '46-'47 Aristocrat Blade - (7) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Witch hazel and the Veg Two more days before blade mania starts, or whatever it may end up being called. Still finalizing some details on how to accomplish that. Been studying blade gaps on the Slim for each setting vs. other razors to try and simulate the right levels of aggression. Some interesting reading on what makes a razor aggressive or mild. I know, thrilling, riveting reading......for the true shave nerd. Today was day 7 on the Voskhod in the Aristocrat and the Détente shave is feeling just a tad shaky. A little less smooth than it has been and the finish is DFS. A very high DFS but I don't think I could have gotten the baby without a lot of irritation. As it was the witch hazel tingled a bit so I know the irritation is up a bit. Still, a full week before the blade showed any signs of weakness and I will easily get the 8th shave on it tomorrow. Gotta love Voskhod. Hope you have a great Saturday. I'm at work looking at an empty store at the moment. Gotta get people awake and up to spend some money!
William, so glad to hear things are calm. We won't tell anyone if you decide to bail out of Dorco. Most people seem to like the 301 over the 300.
July Focus Day 9: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling San Antonio SS Geo. W. Korn "The Real" razor Stirling Unscented PSB Old Spice Fresh I had a great shave with this razor this morning. It is nimble and easy to maneuver, and provides a close shave. I had an easy DFS topped off with some Old Spice Fresh courtesy of @Primotenore. It was a great start to my Saturday. I hope everyone has a great day!
Rockwell 6S/ R5 Base Plate/Ladas (1) Whipped Dog 30mm High Mountain MdC Thayers Lavender The Veg All right, all right, all right....it's not the CJB and only 9 days in I broke my focus...but honestly there was no way I was going to wait till next month to play with my new toy...need to make sure I like it right... wouldn't want a useless razor taking up space in the den...right.... fine I have no will power...sue me. In my defense I am getting great shaves with the CJB so it's not like I need to focus on it each in every day.. Oh and to please the Cartel and make sure @NCoxSTL only has a mild heart attack I popped in a Ladas. This write up will mainly focus on first impressions of the razor as I am sure most people already know that: Martin De Candre is great stuff. Thayers is liquid gold. If "Chosen" The Veg is the best thing since sliced bread and rock and roll. Russian Blades are amazing. All right onto the razor and shave... Well I did it again... browsing Maggards again at 2 a.m. as I needed to stock up on blades and I decided to look at some razors (Feather Folding Shavette, Mongoose, and The Rockwell 6S) as I eventually wanted to add a new razor to the Den as I only had two at the moment (Alumigoose and CJB). Well looking doesn't hurt so I looked and watched some reviews... "What's the worst that could happen".... fast forward an hour or so and I am about to place my order for my blades and I "accidently" added the Rockwell 6s to my order.... oh no... Confirmed my order and braced for the crap to hit the fan (SWMBO ) As most of you know I have placed some "Big" orders lately and it is only a matter of time before SWMBO roundhouse kicks me in the jewels. I got the usual speech from SWMBO when I let her know I had bought it (dumb idea btw). I cant repeat most of it here but you get the picture. Well it arrived this morning and just based off looks I am in love. IMO it is beautiful and I cant stop looking at it... Quickly grabbed some stuff for a shave and Usain Bolt'd too the sink to start my prep and what not. Took a nice cold shower and was back at the sink within 4 minutes (I grew up with 3 sisters and two brothers so if you didn't shower quick you didn't shower or you embraced the ice water so to this day I still shower quick as hell). Loaded up the R5 Base Plate with a Ladas blade and went to town. Holy efficiency Batman!!! This thing mows down stubble but it smooth. Think Muhle R41 before it hit puberty... Can knock down a brick wall but not as bitey. The razor felt great in my hands. Smooth and grippy with no slipping issues while my hands where wet. 2 passes and I am dolphin smooth like never before. Finished off with Thayers and The Veg and I feel great. I think my Goose may have a fight on it's hands.. expect to see this bad boy pop up some more... I will still use the CJB 2-4 times a week (hopefully ) but I want to use different plates and really learn this razor. $100 for basically 6 razors in one, 316L Stainless Steel, and made in the USA?! If any of you have the coin run to your computer and get one. Worse case scenario and you don't like it as much as I do just PIF it to me for proper disposal.
Definitely understand the need to try a new toy, so no worries as to the focus issue. And, you used a Ladas so the Cartel nods its approval. Also, for future considerations, I've had an ex-wife or two, or three, or whatever, tell me I have no heart. Therefore, heart attacks don't scare me.
As some of you know, I am waiting for a Maestro Livi straight razor that I won in a raffle last moth to be shipped here from Italy. There was a mixup in shipping, and my razor went to someone in Phoenix, and his came to me. Since we are both gentlemen and straight razor enthusiasts, we will send the razors on to thier proper homes to fix things. But first we are going to shave with them because they are awesome. I am shaving with a Korrant razor tonight.
Well hello good looking!!! I think that may need to make a pit stop in Massachusetts before going out to AZ.
I am pretty sure if someone said something along the lines of "I think Tiger Blades are better then Voskhods" that may put you over the edge.
