Finished up where I left off last night. Again, I didn't take the shine as far as others as well as leaving a number imperfections visible. I'm quite pleased how it turned out. Now it's time to scout the threads and posts to get a good idea on knots. I'm between badger and horse. Never tried horse, and have 3 badgers. I'm in no rush, but time to get reading up.
One of the benefits of the R400 is that you could have another ferrule so the possibilities for knots rotation... 1> Badger 2> Boar 3> Synthetic
I have not ruled it out. I have had one boat brush, but a pretty cheap one from a HBA store here in Germany. I have never tried one since. I don't know too much about them to make a leap of faith so far.
That would be great! If I could find just the ferrule I could do that. Sorta seems like a unicon though.
The original knot was boat. My 400 was in good shape and a use the original knot and like it a lot. I'm sure there are good quality boar knots available that can help keep the original look. Of course that's just my OCD talking
An original ferrule = would be a challenge. That being said a machine shop locally should be able to replicate it easily. Maybe even accommodate a larger knot The other alternative would be Crown King replica ferrule
I wish we could find a machine shop that would make a batch of these ferrules in aluminum. That really would be a unicorn. The crown king ones just don't do these justice.
If that ever happens I'm sure we would all be head over heals. Maybe when I move to Oklahoma in September I can do some asking around.
You people have got me buying all sorts of brushes, soaps, etc. I didn't plan on this. I may have a problem...
